Mine Decay Question

Post by Chad Harrison »

Hey all

Just looking for some clarification on mine decay. The manual says that mines decay 50% in deep water, 5% in shallow water, and 1% in friendly bases w/ a port size of atleast 1.

Does the decay rate have a minimum amount that needs to decay each day? ie. the least a minefield can decay each day is 1 mine, no fractions or parts. Because, at 1% decay, it takes 69 days to loose half your mines. But thats only if you can loose a fraction of mines each day.

Also, how fast do mines decay in enemy ports? Its not 1%, so is it either 5 or 50 depending on how deep the water is around the port?

Thanks

Chad

Chad, you're correct on your second point.  Either 5% or 50% for your mines in enemy ports.  (Are there ports in deep water hexes?)

The first question about fractions of a mine decaying needs input from one of the crack WitP research staff around here.  [:D]  I guarantee someone has "tested' this.

My guess is that at least one mine decays each turn.  I've seen 1 mine minefields disappear.

Hi!

How do I see how big a minefield is?
How do I mine own ports?

Number of friendly mines are shown in the Port Data screen. You mine your own ports by creating a Mine Warfare TF with one or more mine-carrying ships/subs in, setting their destination to the port in question, and making sure they have "Lay Mines" turned on (it's right under the picture on the Task Force display screen).

You can't see the size of your minefields at enemy bases, nor the size of enemy minefields anywhere.  To see the size of friendly minefields at friendly bases, open the base display and look at the middle of the base info screen, near the top.

To mine your bases, load your ML, set one of your bases as destination, set Retirement Allowed, then be sure to click the Do Not Lay Mines setting to change it to Lay Mines.
