To TOAW or not to TOAW

Post by Shawmut »

I'm about to, within a day, a few hours, maybe even minutes, jump from SPAWWII to TOAW. TOAWW seems to have dynamic spreads of historican options.
Should I be intimidated? All you participants seem so "into it". I question if I'm getting in over my head. I've looked at all the other games from Napoleanic to Cold War and TOAW seems to offer a lot of each; even to the middle East.
I have Korsun and Highway to the Reich and GenEd SPAWWII. I seem to go to the latter more than the other two. (Simplicity, I guess.)
Don't panic; just looking for some reasonable thoughts. I just play against AI.
Your opinions would be well received.

BTW - Anyone have any problems in getting replies from Wargammers/Depot?

That's because TOAW comes with a scenario editor and you can design your own scenario. I guess that's why there are literally hundreds of scenarios to choose from all the way from Napoleonic to Space Age and even fantacy ( how do you spell fantacy ? ).

Don't be intimidated it's easy to pick up the "rules" and it's rather like chess in that the "moves" are easy to remember....it's putting the "moves" in the right order that takes experience to get the mastery of the game down pat.

I don't think so. You look tall enough to me.

Literally, you think of the period and there's a scenario to fit it. Civil war, middle east, nato/warsaw pact, WWI, WWII, WWIII, etc.

I used to play against the AI exclusively and just graduated to PBEM about 18 months ago and the game satisfaction is so much better I shutter to consider going back to just AI play. A human opponent is just that much better in terms of gameplay.

Haven't tried to go there lately, sorry.

Larry,
Seems you covered my concerns .  I'm glad most of the scenarios are established as I couldnt seem to get into that Editor role to easily.  I think it's ago.
Thanks,

Thanks for the encouragement. I just downloaded TOAW and I'm looking forward to enjoying it. The tutorials and the read-me fiiles are bett written than many games I've had.

Thanks for the purchase and the compliments. Update it with the 3.1.0.9 patch and then...Enjoy!
