Can't install 1.3.149

Well, I just blew $40 on a game I can't install.

After running the install program and typing in my registration number, the install program continues, without any error messages.

But - you can tell the install program didn't completely finish, because it doesn't have most of the Windows shortcuts created. (All it has is the "Extras" folder and What's New.pdf) It doesn't prompt me to install DirectX or anything, like the previous installs did.

A weird thing is that it won't default the installation directory to anything. It is just blank. (The older installations do not do this). It also does not add an entry to the "Add/Remove Programs" listing.

It also does not allow me in the game, saying: 'There was an error reading your serial registration'. I know I am putting in the correct registration #.

After reading about all the problems with this game, this is starting to make we wonder.

I tried installing an older install - 1.0.139, and it works fine.

I am using XP.

The installer for 1.3.149 should work exactly the same as previous editions.
 
If you're having trouble with it, you might try contacting matrix directly as they're the keepers of the installtion program. support@matrixgames.com

Buhbooh,
Have you tried uninstalling Max, completely. Even go in with windows explorer and delete the Matrix folder.
Then, install Maximum Football.
Then, install MaximumFootball-UpdateRelease-v13149Comp.exe make sure this file is around 47 megs as it should be 47,584k

Maybe you did this already, just trying to help. If previous updates are ok, it could be a problem with the download of the new patch. Maybe it was corrupted or something hinky is going on with it.

you dont need to install previous patches either, just the actual MaxFB game, and then the most recent update.

Thanks for the responses. There are no other instances of Maximum Football installed, according to the Add/Remove Programs dialog. I tried deleting the folders to no avail. Tried cleaning registry, etc. to no avail.

Well, I notice in the install logs, 2 errors occur:

[03/04/2007 16:43:01] Error Script: On Startup, Line 2 (1605)
[03/04/2007 16:45:59] Error Script: On Post Install, Line 29 (2201)

The first one may have something to do why it is defaulting to a blank directory.

Again, though, the setup program itself does not indicate any errors.

It seems that the confusion is that you do not have 1.0.139 installed first. I was mistaken in my understanding you were using the full installation.
 
Basically, you need to install 1.0.139 first, then install 1.3.149 over the top of it.

What is the first full install I need to do? I can't seem to find a link to it. I didn't download the link that was provided when i paid, because i thought 1.3.149 was the latest FULL install.

find the email you got when you ordered it, get the order number.

Click on the 'Store' link at the top of this page and then you may have to select your region.

then at the bottom or top you see a link 'Order Status'

click that and enter the info and you will be at the page where you can download the full game.

Yes, I thought it was as well. I'm discussing this with Matrix to find out what happened there.
