How about AI controlled teams subing

Post by elmerlee »

David.........

Does the AI ever take players out when they tire? Don't believe I've seen this yet and I've especially watched the runing backs. I have monkeyed with the fatigue setting in the constants file. That works for sure. Set it high enough and players bend over with hands on there knees. Hardly able to get to the huddle. That's funny and kinda neat. But they stay in the game.

What I found was that players seem to commit more penalties to a large degree. And no doubt about it there are more fumbles. Again-very neat. I had each team getting 8 or 9 fumbles in a game after bumping this way up. But no subs came in the game.

I realize that using formation subs you can get some other players in the game but that is a LOT of work and NOT realistic.

I hope I'm missing something or you can point to something in one of the files that I can change to overcome this factor; I feel this is very important to realistic league play.

By the way David; thanks for the file info.

This is something I've been trying to keep an eye on. I have seen the offensive line get subs, but I'm not sure if it is due to fatigue or if it is just a formation sub. I don't think I have ever seen a RB sub for fatigue.

They should be subbing on fatigue yes. If they're not it's something I need to look at. Or it could be that there is no player to fill that spot? Due to the fairly unlimited number of ways people can set up teams, it's possible to get the team into a state where there is nobody available to sub...I'm not sure if that's what's happening but just a thought.

Well David I was all happy when I realized that there were no subs listed for the running backs on either team I was using. I guess an AI team will not generate them and the team must be set to human, auto filled, then back to AI. Did that & got the subs listed in the depth xharts.

Played a game. No Subs into the game.

Increased the fatigue for running 25% in the constants file. No subs.

I don't give up easily. Increasd the fatigue another 20%. Decreased the GAIN from resting 66%. Increased the fatigue from tackling 15%. Starting running backs carried 25 and 27 times in the game. NO SUBS.

Must be another problem. Hope there is another item I can try or you can give a quick fix. This will kill any season play so if there is no easy fix I guess I'll put things on hold.

Thanks for your attention Dave.

I'm not sure why the fatigued players are not subbing out.. I'll see what is going on.

So this seems to be working again now. You should have it in the next public release.

Unfortunately, I had to remove the animated portion of the substitution. This is where the player subbing in, would run on to the field giving a visual cue that a player had been subbed out. My basic testing showed that this animation would often cause delay of game (time count) penalties if the subbing player took too long to get on the field. So now they just 'magically' appear in the huddle.

Note: there still needs to be a player in the 2nd or 3rd slot on the depth chart for the starter to be subbed out. So, for example, if a fullback is fatigued, but there is no 2nd string player listed, he won't be subbed out.

thanks

David - Thanks for the info. Certainly the animated sub was probably nice but seems like a time waster anyhow.

Not to be negative but don't I understand that the next public release may be some time away due to the Vista thing (or someting else I don't remember)? I would hope that maybe a beta release without Vista was possible. No chane of that????

I guess David has nothing more to say on this subject so I'll put it to bed.

Durations between public releases is driven mostly by the process in place. Private testers get packages a minimum of once a week (often more than that though) and then they need time to go over the package and report back. If they find an issue that must have a fix, that's time for me to address it and give them a new package. The release, test, release cycle unfortunately, just isn't very fast.

Vista support will need to be in the next public build because there are customers that can't play the game at all right now. That said, vista support isn't the hold up. There is a short term solution in place.

Thanks.
