Mike is a quick learner and I have to consider every move carefully... You have destroyed more Jap ships than I have in Februar 42!
Think Mike learned not to overextend in our first game, and it has become much more difficult to take him by surprise [8|]
By mid 42 it should be possible to see what direction the game will take [:)]

RE: New Years Day Situation Maps
Jan 1, 1942, and I am right about where I had wanted to be as far as base captures are concerned. I am very unhappy with both the losses I have taken, and the lack of sinkings I have dished out. My poor showing at PH, along with the KB being out of position, and low on attack planes due to the need for repeated attacks on Pearl, has left the Allied CVs untouched. Thes two factors, along with higher than expected losses have left me with a victory point situation which shall haunt me at thend of 1942. The list of bases to capture is very short, shorter than the list the Admiral posted a few comments ago. For the short term ( this coming turn) Tarakan must be dealt with. After that, Singers and Bataan, and maybe another oupost base. The rest must be kept a sectret for just a little longer. The following two maps show he situation on New Years day for the PI and Malayan area of operations. Yellow lines are paths of advance my land forces followed.

Tarakan: Landing for the Japanese should start tomorrow. The poor Dutch there is no place for them to retreat to.
Rangoon: One division is investing the city now with what looks like another one a day away. The assaut to take Rangoon will probably commence shortly. I have gotten out some elements of the eng unit at Rangoon.
Bataan: Japanese units have moved onto the isthmus. bombarding has started
As for the rest, it has been very quiet.

RE: Jan 3 report
Rangoon falls today, pity that the RN Base Force made it out to safety. Invasion of Tarakan started today also. As I reported last turn, more action is coming right away. The most I can tell you right now is that it is time to de-cloak the KB and give away it's position. (hopefully for good reason)

RE: De-Cloaking the KB
After almost 20 days of following (closest I ever came was 2 days behind them)and keeping tabs on the 2 Allied CV groups (and watching them wreak havoc as they went) it is time for the KB to come out of hiding and hit the Admiral where it hurts. The attached map shows a line of progress where the KB sailed after PH. The 2 green X's are where she re-fueled. The red lines are full speed settings, and the yellow lines are cruise speed settings. The yellow and pink circles are the reported known sightings of the individual Allied CV groups (Enterprise and Lexington) the red circles are where I posted subs as lookouts. I had two that where 1 days full speed sailing from the Allied CVs last known position (Sydney), and others placed to the south of New Zealand, the gap towards Perth and the Gap heading to Darwin. This was a very large operation, and required quite a bit of patience. I wont be risking the flak and only attacking at altitude with the Kates. Well, time to go and wait for the turn from the Admiral, and hopefully time for revenge.[:D]

RE: De-Cloaking the KB
Black day for the Americans. Yesterday the KB found the 2 US carriers in Sydney( while their officers and crews were having tea), and did a hurt on the American war effort.
It was one of those turns where you where you hit the done button on combats, because you don't want to watch ever one of the hits.
Also, a slde note--- I need to apologize to Mike in an open forum. After his very good move, I sent an email saying I think I should resign. That was wrong and have sent Mike a personal email saying so. Yesterday I spent 4.5 hours at the dentist, working on new caps, there was a lot shots and griding. I was not in a very good mood to begin with.
Mike is a very good player and I over reacted.

RE: De-Cloaking the KB
GREAT move Mike!! [&o][&o]
Give us the details!!
Understand your frustration Admiral. WitP has a tendency of reinforcing good and/or bad days in RL!
Don't play it on bad days if you see a storm coming [;)]
One of the big challenges in WitP is to go the distance, cause there will be a lot of desperation for both sides.
AndyMac, my AAR opponent is the 4th - and last - Allied commander. I've also been having lots of challenges over the
last year of gameplay. Lost almost all of the Jap carriers [8|]
Keep it up guys, this AAR is only getting better!!

RE: De-Cloaking the KB
I am over the frustration. Ask SonnyII, in our game I don't even if I know if I complained once, and it was a long game; I lost my carriers multiple times. Lesson learned do not do a turn on a day when you have had multiple injections of novacane.
Mike's is very good. It wasn't as if I wasn't afraid of the move, in the back of my mind I knew it was coming. As for the action ----the carriers are not sunk yet. If they do get sink, then I will see some Essexs early in 43. I am now trying to figure a counter to this and I HAVE A PLAN.

RE: The Sydney Raid
In what will be remembered as simply "the raid" the KB managed to catch both the Enterprise and Lexington napping in Sydney Harbor. Neither sank, but they are both burning and cant run or hide. My timing was off slightly, and the attack came off at a range of 5 hexes, instead of 4 so no torpedoes were launched. ( was going to wait another day, but worried my force would be spotted and the gig would be up, so I took a chance) In the original plan at the beginning of the the war, the invasion forces that hit Luganville were to be the bait to lure the Allied CVs out into the open to be engaged and sank. I had placed my fleet oilers near Tarawa to help get the thirsty flattops to the Luganville area in time to ambush the Allied CVs, but the Admirals attack on Baker Island sent my oilers running for their lives, and the KB had to waiste precious days at cruise speed instead of Flank speed. In other news, Tarakan falls in 1 day opening up the supply lanes for oil and resources.

RE: The End of the Lady Lex
Weather kept my attack planes from finishing the job at Sydney, but the Lady Lex did slip out of cloud cover long enough for 64 Vals to put 39 250KGrs into her sending her to the bottom. Just like history, it took me 2 attempt to take Wake. With a little luck maybe I can catch a few more ships this turn before the KB has to leave becasue of Fuel issues.

RE: Follow up raid
The weather turned clear this turn, and the KB launched a follow up raid On Sydney which netted 1 torpedo and 15 bomb hits on the Enterprise. (most of them 800KGrs) She is surely doomed now, even in a size 10 port.

THe Enterprise survives a another round, and Mike doesn't know where she has gone to. WE had a slight air counter attack from Sydney with air units from the Lexington. It probably will make Mike think about staying around.

RE: KB is Heading Home
After a very sucessful couple of days it is time for the KB to head home. She is in dire need of aircraft and pilots and a break. Somehow I managed to allow the Enterprise to slip through my hands.[:@] My forces have entered Singers, she wont last much longer. Final tally for the Sydney raid. Lexington (sunk) Enterprise (heavy damage) Salt Lake City (sunk) Canberra (sunk) Chicago (sunk) Northampton (sunk) Portlan (sunk) Achilles (sunk) Leander (sunk). All in all not to bad.

RE: KB is Heading Home
Losing 5 heavy cruisers will be felt for a long time, as well as the Lexington. Only good item in the loss of the Lexington is the aircraft I managed to unload before losing her. Singapore looks like a lost in the next day. Then Java will feel the Imperial might. Hopefully the KB is heading home to Japan.

RE: 1 Month of War
The first month of hostilities have past, and my forces are right about where I wanted them to be. I have just taken Rangoon, and am at the gates of Mandalay. I will take Singers in the coming turn, and the invasion of Canton Island will start in 1 day. The KB is sailing from harms way for a much needed re-supply of Zeros and Kates. System damage is very low on all the CVs, so other operations before the Zero bonus runs out are not out of the question.
