Need help with counter display

Post by cbelva »

I am trying to create a new scenario. I have ran into trouble understanding the purpose of the "dots" in the counter display. They appear to be somewhat different than in BII.

Can someone explain the what the various functions of the dots and the color code that is used for each one.

Thanks

The unit display settings in country.bmp are identical to BII in function.   The square region next to the quality square was not implemented (believe it was going to be direct fire unit/target) but the game implemented editor settings instead of hard coding the values into country.bmp.

Thanks, that was fast. The ink was hardly dry. So, if I understand correctly, the extra dot to the right of the quality square/dot was not even implemented even tho it is present. I don't have to worry about it as I set up my scenario. I was getting frustrated, because I could not figure it out. I have enjoyed your tutorials. If you can do somethink like that with the scenario editor, it would be great too.

Thanks again.

You have it correct.

An editor tutorial sounds like a good idea.   The concepts discussed in the KP scenario tutorial (in Run5 articles section) are still mostly accurate.  The BF manual editor section is a very good reference tool but it doesn't address how to go about getting the scenario together.

I am having to learn thru trial and error (mostly error), but I am slowly figuring it out. It would save me a lot of time if I knew what I was doing in advance. I enjoy building scenarios and it helps me to understand the game better after I have built one. I hope that I will eventually get this one ready to release some day.

Now, if I could get ahold of instructions on how to program the IA with the war cards..........

One trick I've picked up building the Tutorial Scenario is that the copy & paste function for units works at two levels.

One level covers info displayed in show all units and a second level covers the info available when editing combat or supply units.   So if you're building a regiment with three like battalions, build one of the three units completely and then copy & paste the 2d & 3d units.  You then only have to change the unit name (and maybe location).

Will figure out AI cards once the tutorial is posted.

How to save a current scenario under a new name would be useful too
