Don't be too sure he has not spotted you at Wake. The best time to strike with KB is when your are actually unloading your troops... [:(] ..Fingers crossed and good luck.

Well stone the crows [;)]. i expected it to be tougher than that .. Aztez .. looking good for a

going to be a while before i get a 2-1 here. really do need the extra men and the HQ here.
Will do supplemantary landings at tulagi and russel island for more airfields sooner rather
than later .. about 1 week . Newly arrived 2 CVE and one CVL at rennel for forward protection.
Also in this theatre we will be landing at lae / sag sag and possibly finchafen within
6-8 days .. minimal CV support from 3 CVE's .. but good LBA if the weather holds out.
Many air attacks cost the allies 6 LCT's no biggie .. and japanese tried to hit my
AK's reloading some engineers to concentrate them for use in the future landings (lae etc.)
summary of air losses covers it better than a ream of combat reports .. also the convoy to
Hainan was hit by 3 sub attacks (3 sinkings ) and chinese skip bombing damaged 4 more quite
heavily .. i doubt if any of these AP's and AK's will survive for much longer.

PS spotted the CV Hiryu with a sub at kendari .. thats bad news for the sumatran operation.
Still no idea where the bulk of the japanese carriers are .. i was hopeing they would fight for
wake but joe isn't that daft .. maybe recon from wake can find them ..

smash and grab for marcus as i have 2 completely untouched divisions and the ones that
landed are pretty much in good shape ..
The bad news .. Lunga is tough !
Ground combat at Lunga
Allied Deliberate attack

going to be a while before i get a 2-1 here. really do need the extra men and the HQ here.

Still no idea where the bulk of the japanese carriers are .. i was hopeing they would fight for
wake but joe isn't that daft .. maybe recon from wake can find them ..

wow...no forts at Wake in late 1943. A single BF there would've had level 9 forts there by now.

Could not agree more. I thought it would have level 9 fortifications, etc.
Oh, well... good for you though! [;)] Next stop Marcus Island?

Same here as with both of you .. utterly mystified by that one , but not complaining.
Just wishing i'd launched the invasion before the inf regiment arrived (would have been
a walk over and 2 moths sooner ) but no way to prdeict no forts [&:]
probably marcus .. will recon when ready to go so not signalling intentions. will be badly prepped
for it though , BUT if its as badly garrisoned as wake [&o].. fingers crossed.

Yeah. The Wake Island operation could have ended in disaster had Joe fortified it and made an naval interception during the landings... but as said that was definately good for you! [;)]
I suggest you go for Marcus Island if it seems "defended"! That base will cause a lot of harm to Joe if you manage to grab it.
Good luck!

I'm starting to recon palembang and the south base for invasion (3 weeks ). palembang only has
2 units on it .. could i para drop the USA and indian regiments and force a quick grab ?
Would be pretty much unsupportable though .. humm have to think on that one .

OK its hardly front line fighters for the allies but i have a pool of them so might as well
use bommers 2's as they are way better then the original flying coffin of the same name.
Staying in theatre . Aliies will land at russel/tulagi/lae/sag sag and possibly gasmata in 4 days.
the transports are loading up and LR fighters resting. 3CVE's cover the lae landings by far
the largest ) while CVL+2CVE cover tulagi landings. LR CAP will supplement but i dont think i have
enough to do gasmata as well.

LR CAP will supplement but i dont think i have
enough to do gasmata as well.
breakdown
Lae (20,000 men heavily bombed)
9th aussie inf div
58th RCT
37thRCT
32nd RCT
3rd USMC
1st USA CAV
HQ 1st amphib corps
Sag Sag 1200 men reported.
2nd USMC
30th USA artillery
Gasmata (possibly ,, recon says 2k men)
1st USMC
147 RCT
12th aussie inf brigade
HQ us 6th Army
Russel island (one unit SLF )
lark force
24th RCT
26th USA artillery
Tulagi ( least reconned 4 units no numbers )
161 RCT
102 RCT
2nd aussie AT brigade
also aded to this list is a possible attack from darwin to Kai island
sparrow force
Barisan rgt
6th dutch inf regiment (with virtually no combat men but has heavy arty and support)
Kai is also where i suspect enemy CVs; (kandari) to pounce .. so need a fast unload
and run like hell .. LRCAP flown from the 2 island off of darwin and darwin itself P38's.
any thoughts ? also any comments on the use of bold text , would anyone prefer colour ? just don't
ask me to do better piccies , me and FXfoto hate each other [;)]
PS .. 2 dutch subs badly damaged off sulawesi for the loss of one AK .. back for repairs (long ones)
Meanwhile subs in the china sea and a small raid from chinese bombers sank a large AP and damaged 2
more, all carrying men. In addition AP sunk at rabaul allowed me to find out the 61st japanese
inf division is unloading here.( SS Dolphin is a great wee sub .. also has started a collection of
cap badges as momentos [:D])

Hi Rob. Hope you feel better soon.
Personally I would prefer you to continue using bold type.
Marcus looks rather quiet.Dual recce targets will hopefully dissipate any Jap concentration.
Re: SW PAC I would not go for Gasmata quite yet.See how the other 3 attacks go. May need reinforcements somewhere. If not use forces from first target to fall-air cover permitting.
PS I would use Marcus as target training for the CV`s.THe crews havnt been used hardly at all and should need some extra exp if you are going to face the KB - which will happen sometime.
Any chance of a screenshot of current CV`s and CVL`s ??.

I would suggest to go with original plan and grab Marcus Island quickly! Yeah, it could be used as an training for CV pilots but.... by grabbing the place you will ease up pressure on other fronts which is always good. (Joe cannot let you get so close to Home Islands)
RE: 43 - The Mouse bites back. Rob vs Littlejoe 43+
Hi Rob
Hi AZtec
I agree with you. Certainly attack Marcus now but involve the CV`s as cover/support.A bit of action wouldnt do them any harm.I guess the replacement levels are high. Also recon on Wake as soon as poss.
But then again I think Im just telling Grandma how to suck eggs.[:)]

I'm back ! .. ben an awful few days with a broken computer internet connection . fixrd it 15 mins ago.
How i fixed it ? is definately open to interpretation. Told my puter to use remote connectivity
(which i don't have) as a last resort , bingo ! worked .. and yup its definately NOT remote enabled.
anyhoo.. did the turn a few days ago and have forgotten most of what happened (in detail).
so short update :-
As you will be aware japanese subs are as rare as hens teeth .. well there is one fewer
hens tooth in the world and its nothing to do with me. SS R)-34 rams a japanese mine and SINKS ! [:D]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 11/21/43
I had the combat replay but no 'turn' yet so cannot comment on any damage inflicted or how many
men left to unload etc.
OK .. the day was interesting . Lets call it the "day of the handbag" visualise to weak old women
slapping each other with the aforementioned appareil , then imagine one of them is unable to
throw her bag far enough to hit the enemy. Thats a metaphor for the CVE vs CVL? off of Lae.
In witp terms he stayed at 5 hexes throwing in 'small' attack raids while the allies at
"do not retire/react" orders stayed put ( and were out of range ). looks like minor damage
from the reports for 2 CVE's and one LST sank.
raids were :- (including some LBA attacks from Rabaul , all of which attacked the LST convoy
for some odd reason ??? ).

Time to leg it back to cover ! .. buna if in need of flood pumping . otherwise Gili gili for
replacement planes and pilots ( looks like the F4's got a LOT better on day 2 so i'm assuming
for now that darwinian selection weeded out the duffers on day 1 ). LR CAP over the landing beach
at Lae scared off all japanese planes who naturally veered toward the CVE's.
Also landing ak Kai island gave me a shock, 46th infantry division was listed as a defending unit.
EEK .. light dutch and british raiding units seemed to be doomed. However it transpired that its
just a fragment (size unknown). BUT also appears i don't have enough men to shift him off
of here, only time will tell.
In other news the barracudas secretely based in sumatra sank 2 japanese minelayers at singapore
Again no japanese CAP over malaya and japan paid the price. also nil enemy a/c over timor as the
P38's encountered no opposition.
Japan also sent a few light carriers to try and hit the russel island forces , fortunately i
withdrew while the troops capture the base and send the japs into the jungle. Continued
shock attacks should hopefully finish them off in a few days.
In china the northern attack force encountered a japanese tank division and sent it packing
with interest ! .. excellent ( rubs hands together mr Burns style ).

time to send out the liberators from rangoon currently resting as morale is shot )
more when i get the turn .. looking good so far though.

Ouch. You almost got burned in South Pacific! [:-][:D]
Thankfully it was not the KB that hit you...!
What other operations are ongoing... Marcus Island?... You really need to somehow lower the pressure at Solomons before something "nasty" happens.

Marcus attack is loaded and has been sent 120 miles off wake just to make sure that all the taskforces actually behave themselves.
As for getting burned in the SWPAC .. hehe .. CVE's are expendable imo. but i'll try not to be careless with them in the future. Besides they did draw the enemy away from the landing forces so thier job was completed as designed. I'll need the turn back before i can assess how much longer the transports need to stay at LAE (all valuable AP's too ) AK's carrying supply and LST's also hauling some forward.
Solomons are a potential danger when I go for Tulagi .. but the air bases i have in the area are pretty uselss (really want clarke field ) . Also most of my larger units are prepped for lunga so havnt much to throw forward to be honest. Paln is to just creep forward here and throw the main attack up the new guinea coast which appears lightly defended as far as i can tell. Lae also makes a great airfield ! , Planning on landing on the bismark ? islands
sooner rather thn later (the island with rabaul at the east end)
this would leave japan with a very overextended "empire" in the marshalls and gilberts ( which i plan on ignoring unless some overwhelming need arises)
While on the subject of plans, SEAC looks to be the least conventional approach. after securing sumatra what to do next ?
I'm thinking about going for Java to completely deny the DEI for japan.
what about malaya ? humm .. i'm not too sure a tavoy or victoria point invasion would work as japan has large forces in the area (by which it appears and i'm guessing here, that the DEI is lightly defeneded).
okey dokey everyone, any idea for future plans ? all comments and conjecture is most welcome ..

RE: 43 - The Mouse bites back. Rob vs Littlejoe 43+
Definately go through CenPac... at least grab Marcus as the initial plan has been for ages. That will force Joe to reorganize his defenses and propably will draw units out of South Pacific meat grinder. That would ease the pressure there.
So, Joe has strong forces in Burma??? ...or are those stack units just divided to make look stronger than actual size??? If so than I would conduct an landing there and try to split his forces in two. Allthough, you do need strong army to do so.
I would prioritize those two operations. How is the supply levels at China. A good push there would give Joe a huge headache... or at least I would assume so.
Overall threaten to isolate large number of ground units in Pacific. That really is going make him think twice. You don't need to capture everything... [:-][;)]

that is why i love this AAR so much!
(leaving this AAR and runing WiTP - first step: reinforcing Wake, second step: reinforcing Marcus) [:D]
Keep up the good work!

LOL Pauk , I'm learning by andys example too on reading your and PzB's AARs. IE USN pilot shortages, F6 shortages (keep CVE's with F4/F2 etc. ) lots of nice tips .. just hope Joe dosent follow your example [;)]
Aztez . Marcus indeed .. 4 divisions loading/loaded , also tanks arty and engineers and the ACG with
an HQ (all badly prepped though). Still havnt left Wake as the level 2 port is slooooow loading men
and more importantly supply. I have 3 AK's and about 2 dozen tankers free in the indian ocena
right now as virtually every ship is needed for the sumatran adventure. Joe did run in a small NLF
to the west of sumatra (the AK's spotted last turn). as its not where i'm landing we should
have a suprise here. 'll do a list of whats prepped for tavoy (all will be 100% by the time i get
the transports back from operation "GONAD" , swift kick in the middle regions containing vital
centres [:D]
To update the combat reports the CVE's at lae , worst hurt is only 16% sys damage ( think i got away
very lightly but one CVE is down to 4 F4's ! .. in total 21 of the original 63 are alive (not good )
so running back to gili at flank speed for new planes. roughly 20 pilots died (about 1/2).The
tired P38's will have to continue for 2 more days. Most men have debarked now and the AP's should
start withdrawing tonight, RCT will conduct preliminary artillery shelling to estimate the enemy
numbers. for some odd reason a small part of the 2nd USMC landed [&:](not prepped at all) and
should never have been loaded in the forst place. returning AK's collet the stragglers for
return to GG.
Operation GONAD,
80,000 men
140,000 tons of supply
backup 170,000 tons supply and 140,000 tons fuel (coming from karachi when i have air cover present).
heres GONAD in all its glory [;)]
all packed into 10 or so taskforces.
Concerning china, supply is an issue to be honest, everywhere is in the orange bar chungking, I
have been skimping on the transports for quite a long time as allies have 140 commandoes in
sabang ferrying troops up and down sumatra as the sea isnt safe here one bit. 3 more 64 plane
transport wings arrived in colombo (from america) to help out in china. That was rather far
sighted of me i admit, suprised myself [:D].
Trying to move out the BFF brigade and the 15th indian division from medan is taking ages ! ..
and annoyingly today all the C46's had pick up the BFF command for about 6 days and there is 1
yup 1 disabled mortar piece that refuses to fly ! .. bah humbug .. also more of the 15th indian
had appeared magically in medan (should be in rangoon with the SEAC HQ afaik) and 1/2 the c46's
tasked with collecting these strays. Fragments seem to appear randomly at times. Just
looking at the SW Pacific makes my internal logistician wince [:@]. Never mind though one day
when i get really really bored and have several A4's to burn I'll start making lists of what
needs to go from where to where .. can't say i am looking forward to it though .. [8D]
next few weeks should be interesting . Tulagi invasion lunched today should land day 2 next turn.
thanks for the replies all
