Ah, James GARNER was the original Maverick in the Western TV Series of that game. The next Maverick I know of was Tom Cruise in "Tom Gun" flying an F-18 Hornet.

James Garner played Bret Maverick--professional gambler. Heck of a good TV series. There was also brother Bart Maverick and cousin Beau Maverick.
