A Question and a Bitch

Question: how do I transfer units to Karachi?

Bitch: does the search engine *ever* find anything?

Land Combat Units can be transferred by putting them in San Francisco and changing their HQ to Southeast Asia. As for air units, they have to go by sea, aside from RCAF squadrons (supposedly, but I've never attempted it).

And no, the search function never finds anything. The forum's gotten too big...

LCU's will transfer from any West Coast base, after changing it's HQ to either SEAC or China Command.

BTW, LCU's transfered to China are limited in number.
Somewhere between 6-8 units may change and do a transfer to China Command.
There must be some limit on the China Command reinforcement slots.

For Canadian airgroups to transfer, you have to redesignate the units HQ.
Then you have to withdraw the unit.
So you must have two air units of the same AC to do this.
The airgroup will then show on the reinforcement track.[;)]

isn't there some shortcut whereby you can get lots of divisions to transfer just by changing the HQ of one of them?

Last time this came up someone said they routinely change the North Pacific HQ to SE Asia and then all subsequent reinforcements show up in Karachi. Can't remember who...

You can change NOPAC,CENPAC,SWPAC, or SOPAC to SEAC.[;)]
I wouldn't advise changing it to China Command, as the number of LCU's you can send is limited.
I only send AAA LCU's to China.[:)]
They make the Japanese pay for their pilot training program.

Be sure to move the HQ out of the base if it's located on the West Coast, or it will transfer too.
Restricted West Coast Command will not transfer those troops.
You have to pay PP's for each restricted command LCU.[;)]

You can change the HQ to SEAC, then after the troops arrive in India, you can change it back to what HQ it was at the start.
So the remaining troops will appear at their original destination.

You can see if the transfer worked by checking the reinforcement track, the turn after you changed it.

Oooh- that's a damn good idea. [:)]

I've found sending an engineer regiment or two to be useful as well to help with taking down forts.

While I understand the possibility to ship troops to India coming from the West, it seems hard to bringing them to China, especially when the Burma road is closed. So a house rule of restricting the change of LCUs to China command wouldn´t be bad me thinks. Change them to SEAC and then fly them in perhaps. But when Burma is conquered (or even India [8|]) how should they pop up in Chungking?

A quick look at a map & it looks like, even with India conquered, there'd still be this air route: Iran -> Afghanistan -> Western China -> Chungking. If Chungking were being beseiged & the Japanese had air superiority over the city it might be different.

My most evil idea so far is to send West Coast CD forts to Karachi if it's threatened by IJN Bombardment TFs etc. They do transfer even when static. That can make Karachi nearly unconquerable for Japan..and big surprise for those BBs trying to bombard. "Very Gamey™" too, but could help Allied player to keep the India !!

That is a little too gamey for me. It was the only thing I actually agreed with Nemo on when one of his previous Lunacy AARs came to grief. Having said that, a potential opponent in an Iron Storm game just showed me a screenie of the number of aircraft carriers he has available on turn one - perhaps I cannot afford to rule anything out......[:D]

I don't do the CD Fort transfers.
That is a little too much.[;)]

The AAA to China, I do in every game.
Only because I think the pilot training system needs a little balance for it's return in giving the Japanese player pilot experience.
Now they earn them.[:D]

I've never sent anything larger to China.
They really don't need the help, especially in CHS.[;)]

air route? In WW2? I know there was some intense airtransport later in the war in the Burma area but Iran - Afghanistan - Western china - Chungking? A loooong distance to transport a couple of divisions by air...
