December 10, 1941

Nothing out of the ordinary

The slaughter of ships in and around the Philippines continues..

except for -
... the 4th consecutive day of air strikes against Pearl Harbor. I'll have to go back and look at the casualty list to see what this has cost Mike. So far I haven't lost a BB.

Since I do not play the Allies frequently(ever) in PBeM...I wasn't familiar with this...When I reran the December 7 combat replay it did not generate a combat report...luckily I wrote down Mike's losses at Pearl Harbor so without further adeiu -

12/7
A6M2 Zero: 8 destroyed, 10 damaged
D3A2 Val: 15 destroyed, 41 damaged
B5N2 Kate: 14 destroyed, 37 damaged

12/8
D3A2 Val: 4 destroyed, 25 damaged
B5N2 Kate: 3 destroyed, 18 damaged

12/9
A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged
D3A2 Val: 7 destroyed, 17 damaged
B5N2 Kate: 11 destroyed, 34 damaged

12/10
A6M2 Zero: 2 destroyed
B5N2 Kate: 2 destroyed, 30 damaged

In total:
A6M2 Zero : 11 destroyed, 10 damaged
D3A2 Val: 26 destroyed, 83 damaged
B5N2 Kate: 30 destroyed, 119 damaged

I imagine most of the damaged planes get repair by the following day...

Is this stock or a mod?? House rules??

I would love my opponent to bomb PH like this. The cream of the Japanese air force attrited away bombing already damaged BB's.

Where are you're carriers??? I'd be halfway to teh DEI by now with a huge head start on KB. There must be a big fat TF waiting to ambushed there.

Dec 8th-9th 1941 IJ report on days events

Post by Mike Dixon »

IJ communique:-

Airstrikes continuing at Pearl, amid the fire and smoke many battleships are believed to have been sunk.

A large convoy is being assembled to continue the conquest of Wake.

Zekes, G3M and G4M aircraft are on high alert for enemy carrier strikes in all areas.

China remains quiet.

Kota Bharu has fallen in Malaya after little resistance. The days of British colonialism are numbered.

Several destroyers did not return from near Bataan - a mid sea collision is suspected. Landings continue in the Phillipines.

Tarawa has been liberated. This base is earmarked for rapid expansion and may be used for further liberations.

End of communique

In recent developments elements of the IJA 2nd Division were engaged by his majesty's forces on the road to Moulmein. Apparently Tojo plans on trying to force a quick campaign in Burma.

IJA units continue a bulid up in the Norther Philippines...Shipping in and around the other islands continues to be pounded by Japanese land based planes.

In China - Nanking is under seige by a Chinese corps efforts to break the seige by the battalion defending the city were unsuccessful.

In Malaya the HMS Exeter and HMS Cornwall shelled Japanese forces attacking Alor Star. Each ship was subsequently attacked by Japanese aircraft, however superior seamanship by both Captains resulted in little damage being inflicted on either ship...

On Borneo Dutch Martins flying out of Tarakan have hit the oil field at Miri with some success...

The Japanese carrier fleet seems to be making slow progress west and has engaged sevreral merchant ships and small craft making a return to Pearl.

After an initial move on Kavieng and Lunga by the Japanese the South Pacific has grown quiet...

Sitrep from regional HQ's 12th to 14th December 1941

12th December

A large enemy surface TF, lead by CA Houston was beaten away at Legaspi. The enemy took heavy losses. Landings have begun at Burnei, Borneo. Kavieng, near Rabual was occupied. This base is to be used for recon of Rabual and surrounding seas.

13th December

Brunei was seized after a brief fight. British colonial troops were seen fleeing into the jungle. A small SNLF force has landed at Lunga. Friendly forces are also landing at Kuching, Miri and Manado.

14th December

After a three day lull, due to inclement weather and a large amount of obscuring smoke, the air bombardment of Pearl continued. Many BB's are believed to have been damaged or sunk. Local observer will give a clearer picture when the obscuring clouds clear. The KB is now heading for Wake Island. At Aparri a large enemy PT force was totally destroyed. Manado, Miri, Kuching and Lunge all joined the greater East Asian co-prosperity sphere after brief resistance. Further gains in Hong Kong were made.

Imperial Japanese HQ, Tokyo

Update 15th to 16th December 1941

Both the Phillipine and Java sea's have become graveyards for Allied shipping. G3M and G4M aircraft, in conjunction with Zekes, control the skies and sea lanes. With the closure of the Malacca straits, Singapore is now isolated. Several British crusiers were chased away from the Malayan/Burma border on the 15th. Several bomb hits on these ships were obtained.

Update 17th to 20th December 1941

Seas around Singapore

Many ships were sunk by Naval aviation. Intelligence believe that the Allies are trying to remove indigenous resources, prior to their liberation by friendly forces. The days of imperial colonialism are numbered.

Hong Kong

After an early morning assault, Hong Kong fell on the 20th. Many prisoners were taken. Wild scenes of joy were seen on the streets, as the enemy were sheppered away.

Wake

The remaining American 'Marine' forces were rounded up by the 20th. The KB, acting as distant cover, was involved in the action. Large minefields have been laid and local Naval air and surface forces are available.

Phillipines

Further advances were made. For instance, on the 18th San Fernando was captured, after weak resistance.

Rabaul

This key base fell on the 20th. The Australian 'Lark' force was mostly destroyed by a Naval bombardment, small numbers of the enemy were seen fleeing into the hinterland. Rabaul is to be developed into a strategic centre with strong air and Naval forces. Further operations are anticipated. In a parallel operation, Naru Island was liberated on the 19th.

Sub RO-61, a few hundred miles south of Rabaul, reported hitting the American CA Portland on the 20th. It is unclear if these enemy ships were part of a surface or an air combat TF.

As the new year approaches...

The slaughter of the merchant marine continues in and around the Philippines as supplies and resources are moved to and fro...Japanese forces have landed at Davao.

In China several Japanese resources centers are under seige. Generalissmo Chiang Kai-sheks men are preforming admirably. Japanese pressure seems to be intensifying in the south near Wuchow and Nanning.

In Thailand/Burma elements of the the Guards Division and 55th Divison continue the slow crawl to Moulmein.

In Malaya IJA trrops have advanced to Georgetown and as far south as Kuantan.

On Borneo All but the South/Southeast coast have been occupied by Japanese forces.

Further east Kendari has been placed under the japanese heel.

On the other end of new Guinea Finchhafen and Rabaul as well as Lunga have been occupied.
