Installed, but not able to run CoI

Post by Ima Pseudonym »

Problems:

Installed OK so I tried to play the game. Received that pesky message about problems that Windows issues on occasion...

CC3.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

AppName: cc3.exe AppVer: 2006.11.17.1 ModName: cc3.exe
ModVer: 2006.11.17.1 Offset: 000a3c72

Read the forum. Saw a few other references to this problem.

Downloaded the current version of DirectX and installed. Used the Program Manager to check for most current updates to the meager video drivers I am using. Did the full 'dxdiag' checks and found no errors.

I made sure I disabled my Norton Internet Security (2007 version) in every way possible. Uninstalled CoI. Rebooted. Reinstalled. Same thing as above.

Pulled the plug on my modem and uninstalled Norton completely. Rebooted. Uninstalled CoI. Rebooted again. Reinstalled again. Same error.

So, it should not be a problem with Norton running. It's no longer on the machine.

Now, I come to the board seeking help. A commander without his troops is just a guy in a funny suit.

SOLVED!

Tackster suggested changing the compatability mode and it runs great under Win98.

Help Desk Call completed.  Mark it closed!
