How Reload ML's in 1941?

Post by cfulbright »

I've sent out the Dutch ML's to mine likely routes, but once they return to port there doesn't seem to be any way to reload them. Do I have to wait until I've built MLE's to reload ML's?

None of the Dutch ports are big enough to reload minelayers. It could be looked at as simulating the lack of large numbers of mines in the DEI in 1941... or not...

Find a size 9 port - they will reload there.

Alternately, if you concentrate some of the Java units in Soerabaja, you can have it built up to a level 9 port by mid-late Jan '42.

Having a MLE ( Mine layer tender) will also let you reload mines. Stock games don't have one early in the war. Some of the mods have them early on.

Just what I wouldn't do.
Build Soerbaya up for the Japanese to take.[;)]

Now, as a Japanese player, I would say go ahead and build it to a level 9 port.[:D]

Its only one port level...but it will take a ton of supply and engineers to get there. I tried it, but in the end wished I had built more forts instead.

Oh, I don't know - the one time I did that I never lost Java & my opponent surrendered in Aug '42. Might depend on the game, though.

In CHS the British get an MLE at Ceylon in the early going. You can (carefully) bring that one forward to create a mine depot for all the minelayers in the SRA.

Historically, the reloads were at Singapore.

I agree.[;)]
As an Allied player, forts are better.

Use the ML's once, and get them out.
Most are shortlegged, and will die if you don't.
Though back in the rear ports they can bolster your area with lots of mines.
I send half to India, and the remaining to Australia.
