RE: The Great War 1914-????
I'll be updating this to 'date' in a few weeks, when the holidays are, then you should get some more ieda of how the war has went. Anyways:
1. In real life, the Italians joining the war didn't pull almost any forces out from other fronts, I doubt the case will be any other here...I already have enough forces there to stop any invasion...unless I go to offensive myself.
2. The russians did make some good progress against Turkey, but out of the three places they are advancing one has been blocked, and in one i am now advancing...and the third one, well I can lose ground there.

RE: The Great War 1914-????
Here's a movie of the initial dispositions in turn 38 and my feeble attempt to try to plug the breakthrough. Note
the use of HQs and low value units. Those units that attempted to pull back from the front lines either
evaporated, routed, or retreated, a result of the low preficiency of the Russian units I suppose. I pulled some
units from other places in the line ( weakening them in those spots ) to get enough units to move by rail to the
North of the breakthrough and even then they won't be in any condition to help out until probably turn 39 or 40.
This German breakthrough gap is here to stay. This is surely the beginning of the Russian end:

Yep, it is. As you may know Karri ( my opponent ) is one of the better players. He keeps
complaining in his eMails about how depleted/tired his units are but personally I think he'll
keep pushing some. He knows my dudes are in the red and perhaps "one more push"
will do it finally.
But it ain't over until the fat lady sings.

Here's what the western front lines look like. The German line isn't really only one hex wide, I ( the Allied player ) just can't see into his rear areas. This is what it has looked like since about turn 15 or so. Or maybe earlier. The real action is on the Russian front, or maybe the Italian front.

Here's a view of the Italian front in turn 50. The Italians have been pushing on the far western edge and may gain the advantage in about 15 turns or so.

Here's a view of the northern part of the Russian front lines. This area has been static since....almost from the beginning of the game.

Here's the southern part of the Russian front lines. I dont have a "before" picture to show you but this part of the front lines is brand new. You can see some entrenchments behind the German lines. I'm not 100% sure but I think that's where the Russians were "before".
This bulge was made by the recent German offensive. And they may push some more in the near future.

Allied turn 50
Here's a view of the North African front. The Italians came to help out the British but it looks like a lost battle already. The Germans are bringing in more assets and are going to push the Allied forces back to the river probably.

I've been busy with life, so haven't had time to write anything here. Sorry. For casualties, well all I need to say is that as far as replacements go, I don't have them.

We decided to discontinue this game. Also, we decided to agree it was a draw. Thanks for reading this far.

This message is slightly off-topic but how do you guys make those animated GIF maps?? And, on a related question, how do you save the game map so as to be printable??

Slayer teh animated GIFs are made by turning the map log function on in options - I forget exactly what it is called tho...
This generates 2 files - one is a zoomable view of all units and the whole map - it amounts to about 120 Mb for Fire in the East. the 2nd file is makes is the red/blue-dot overview and is about 1% of the size of the former.
these last can be linked together to make the gifs - see http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1380067&mpage=1&key= for how.

Check page 1 for how they do the animated maps. The convert the images to GIFS and then use a GIF animator to put them together.

Thanks guys for your very helpful and quick responses. As you can probably tell, I'm new to TOAW3, but am a wargamer from way back, great to be able to play a monster sim on the PC without having to deal with thousands of counters and two ping-pong tables put together. [8D]
