RE: Land Combat
I don't recall Malta ever being completely shut down either. (in fact the Axis was forced to night bomb on more than one occasion)
its about to get alot tougher........ [:D]
its about to get alot tougher........ [:D]
RE: Land Combat
I guess it depends on the definition of being 'shut down'. There were definitely periods where Malta couldn't function as a base against axis convoys. Obviously some tweaking will be required to get the particulars right - maybe larger AF rating? More engineers?
RE: Land Combat
technically the larger the AF rating the harder it's supposed to be to "shut down" the base. Problem in WitP engine is that even the largest AF (size 9 or 10) can be shut down reletively easy unless you have massive numbers of engineers. A deeper problem is the eponential effect of having increasing numbers of damaged aircraft sitting on the ground. The more sitting on the ground, the more that get destroyed per raid. Larger airfields should also be exponentially harder to hit grounded aircraft in lieu of special tactics or weapons (like parafrags etc)
For the beta of WitM - Nikmod, I have implemented several changes to make Malta a tougher nut to crack.
1) increased fort levels to 8. (fort levels help a little to reduce casualties from attack)
2) large increase in flak guns. (Malta is an experimental flak city)
3) large increase in engineer numbers. (to help facilitate quick repairs.
4) Italian AV in siciliy has been drastically reduced in an effort to produce a more realistic servicable/unservicable ratio if heavy continuous ops are employed.
I also scrubbed airgroup exp values. UK exp values seem to be mostly if not all stock WitP. I gave Malta's groups a boost. Italian exp generally went down as they seem to have benefited from IJAAF/IJNAF default values. Germans remain reletively high however replacements in too great a number will quickly degrade them.

In WITP airfields are difficult to close (compared to UV) and this part is OK for me. The part that is not OK is that there is no dispersal in WITP, and it is far too easy to destroy AC on the ground with bombers.
Banzai....errrr... sturm!
ok, here is a CR... i must say that subs are proved to be useless - i think that this have something with 30 miles hex - transports can reach north arfica in three or four days and it is hard to set an ambush in right hex.... so, supplying NA is piece of cake after the Malta is closed down.... it is too easy....

RE: Land Combat
Of course if you could differentiate your airfield attacks into those designed to destroy aircraft (strafing, low level bombing w/para frags) vs trying to crater the runway and destroy facilties (level bombing) it would help I am sure.

NikMod or no NikMod, the problem will always be that the WitP land combat model isn't conducive to the Mediterranean theatre. Unfortunately...
It's a good mod, all the same, and kudos to fremen for it...

Expectable as in RL expected, or WITP oops those aren't Italians they're actually Japanese with Italian names expected? [;)]
RE: Land Combat
Since these Italians have Japanese night exp values....it will probably be a real barn blaster at the very least.

thanks Nik...i always says you are the best person here. I would kick his ass but my "BBs" sucks --- Andrea Doria has (or it is better to say had[:D]) 12" main guns....armour is poor and there is nothing i can do about it - even with my well known skills...
Still, i'm more than sure i will kick Englander in the same way Croatia did it to England in Zagreb (football match - clear and easy win 2-0)...
