Wolfie -v- HMS Resolution

Post by Wolfie1 »

I'm taking on HMS in his first PBEM, historical first turn just sent back to him. I'm not a great writer but will attempt to document what happens as best as I can.

Infamy! Japan launches a suprise attack, At Pearl harbour Arizona is sunk, two other battleships are crippled and a further two are seriously damaged.
The Japanese have launched numerous bombardments of the Phillipine islands, most coastal bases have been hit, troops following up in many places.
Wake island and Batan have both fallen to the invaders, further attacks were experienced at Hong Kong and Malaya.

The US is now on a War footing and will resist the aggressor.

What's the status in the Phillipines? Do you have a reasonable number of aircraft and subs remaining, or has HMS Resolution cooked your goose?
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

The aircraft have been hit heavily, but the subs got off very lightly - he's going to regret that[;)]

The Japanese have taken Vigan, Aparri and Guam, further landings at Khota Baru, there have been numerous bombardments of coastal bases in the Phillipines. Hong Kong holds for now but cannot last much longer.

The Japs push on in the Phillipines, Parachute drop at Lingayen plus Legaspi and Aparri fall. US Carriers fight back and cripple 2 Japanese CL's and a DD supporting their invasion of Wake Island.

The Japs push forward in Malaya and capture Khota Bharu. US units in the Phillipines are starting to pull out, hopefully the Betty's/Nell's won't spot all the single ship TF's.

A fairly quiet day - the Japs air raided Clark plus Manila and a few bases in Malaya. Two RN DD's were sunk in the South China sea whilst attempting to escapa Homg Kong. The Japs also took Makin Island (Unopposed).

Several Japanese raids in the Phillipines, Clark plus Manila hit heavily, the AVG transferred to Singapore repulses a raid, heavy losses for the Japs.

Hong Kong still holding from heavy Japanese attacks.

A small disaster, BB's Arizona, Tenessee and Oklahoma were en-route to San Francisco for repairs when they were attacked by aircraft from KB - it has moved east! All three BB's lost. I'm trying to get something together to get KB away from Pearl, but my LBA there is still knackered.

CV Saratoga was en-route to Pearl, but has diverted south as the KB is still at Pearl.

More of the same, heavy raids on Manila/Clark Field - the P40's are doing well but there simply aren't enough of them.

Moving the AVG to Singapore has paid dividends, they killed 7 zeroes for the loss of two of their own.

It turns out that Oklahoma took 103 bomb hits in one day before succumbing.

Numerous land attacks in Malaya - Alor Star holds easily, but Victoria Point falls to the invaders. Hong Kong holds (a week, this is a record for me[;)]) but has the forts reduced.

My main problem is that KB has decided to camp out exactly between halfway from the west coast to Pearl - my main supply route, numerous convoys are at risk, anybody got an idea how long KB can sustain ops before having to go and replenish?

A final gripe - I still can't get the animations to work in this one, my opponent is getting them now and despite me checking the pref's screen I'm still not getting them[:@]

A quiet day for this stage of the war, a major raid on Clark Field did serious damage.

Hollandia was taken by the Japanese and they started landings at Miri.

Hong Kong was Shock attacked again, held out but the forts were reduced to level 2.

The landing force at Miri have a nice suprise on the way - I've finally decided to commit Force Z.

Super cruiser Boise is lurking in the DEI waiting for me to spot something worthy for her to attack.

Has the KB received any reinforcements/replenishment since the Pearl harbor raid? If not, my guess is they'll have to leave in under a week. (You might also want to send some submarines that way . . .)

Every sub that I can muster is trying to intercept KB, I don't know if its replenished since the PH attack, I've not detected the AO Group following it. My guess is that it will have to reinforce soon.

Watch out for that Rick. In my other PBEM, my opponent went after one of my damaged CVs. He thought the ship went to Kwajalein and flooded the area with subs. 15 sunk subs later, he gave up. The carrier wasn't there. [;)]

When you concentrate subs in a small area, the enemy ASW forces can concentrate and do major damage. Now, if KB is east of PH, you may be able to pull it off. Just be careful.
