a newbe question about custom scenarios

Post by m5000.2006 »

hello,

is it possible to make custom scenarios/campaigns for cota like with TOAW; if so, then can you use the editor to select scale, unit size, climate, etc like with the TOAW editor?

what unit size is cota? can unit scale change depending on the scen, or is it always the same (e.g. company)?

thanks

"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where –" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.

m5000.2006,

Welcome.

The MapMaker and ScenMaker apps provided with the COTA allow you to create your own maps and scenarios. We don't have a campaign feature though. The ScenMaker allows you to create your own units and order of battle but they must be based on one of the estabs within the existing estab file.  So that means the unit scale is basically company and platoon with the odd artillery battalion. As COTA estabs focus on those forces involved in the Mediterranean theatre circa 1941 you can create any number of these types but you won't be able to create 1944 US Armoured forces for instance. For that you will have to wait till we release Battles from the Bulge ( BFTB ) later this year. In fact BFTB will include all the estabs from our earlier Highway to the Reich ( HTTR ) game, which was the first in the West Front theatre. Basically we will roll in the estabs from previous titles in the same theatre.

Within the ScenMaker you can adjust the weather patterns for the scenario.

what is 'estabs'?

also, so i understand from your post that it won't be possible to make a germans vs soviets scenario set in russia

is it possible to make any map you like from scratch (e.g. a map of Leningrad ) or can you just alter the existing ones?

as i understand, each game has a kind of database of units and equipment, so e.g. cota allows you to create only Mediterranean units from around 1941, and what about httr - only german and western allies from around 1944/1945?, so it won't be possible to create e.g. a 1944/1945 russian unit?

No, for that you'll have to wait for "Red Star Rising" which is currently scheduled after "Desert Crusade" which should be the game after "Battles from the Bulge" they're currently working on.

Any map you like from scratch - people in this forum have made maps of Normandy, Cyprus, Leros, ...

Yes

and what about httr - only german and western allies from around 1944/1945?,

Yes - and the upcoming BFTB game will have the HTTR estabs included.

Nope, though I've seen a German captured KV-1 in the fictional "Ray of Hope" scenario set in Malta 1942
