Med Wars! - Chuck vs Nik

Post by ctangus »

I've volunteered to help Nik test his version of fremen's excellent War in the Med mod.

I'll be defending the English-speaking peoples and all that's right and good against the evil fascist log hordes of Nikademus.

Relevant settings:

Sub auto off
Sub doctrines off
Damage control bonus off.
Advanced weather off.

I didn't issue too many orders for the first turn. I upped the CAP % at Malta (to 60%) and staggered the altitude of the defenders some. Sent most of my subs out of port. I'm flying some recon in order to figure out what I'm facing.

Here's a screenshot showing the unconquerable defenders of Malta:

Nik sucks.

Its all very complicated. this mod needs alot of playtesting help and I can't risk such a GLORIOUS venture on slowpoke Brits who suck and lose Tiger tanks to Italian M-13's reqularily in SP games.

Speedy could lose even if you gave him E-100's and pitted them up against disabled Char-B's

Comments

Its a bit early to start i suppose but first impressions and all can still be important;

1) Looks like Italian AV may still be too generous. There's so much 'stretch' in the AV that even though the primary Italian airbase is well under the required support requirement i have few damaged aircraft.

2) Unless Fremen's done some kind of metric conversion....there's something seriously off in regards to surface ship speeds. My Italian BB's have speeds of 36 - 54kts. The merchants have 22 kts. This 'may' explain Pauk's comment about it being too easy to supply North Africa....this is beyond Tokyo Express.

3) Aircraft ranges seem equally strange now that i seem them on screen, in action. Most Italian aircraft have ranges greater than G4M's.....you can hit virtually anywhere on the map from any point. I have Greek Island based Italians hitting North Africa.....Italy based planes hitting North Africa......Alexander? based bombers hitting El Alg.....etc. its a very small lake, is this Med.

4) Some of the aircraft stats probably need some adjustment.

5) Thinking that starting replacement pools, aircraft , supply and esp fuel might need some downtuning. The Italians complained about shortages of fuel oil in particular though it remains a source of great debate on how authentic a complaint this was. (Germans were always suspicioius...having shipped generous quantities of oil to Italy throughout their alliance...yet seeing little in returns vis-a-vis Italian fleet action)

6) AA seems to have a bite now. [:'(]

7) Nik is an awesome Duche.

I probably should put a good number of these generous Italian aircraft numbers in a more proper servicable/unservicable ratio as well. Sometimes an obvious point can be staring one right in the face. A problem for Malta right off the bat is that it has an entire Italian airforce with 100% servicability sitting off it's front porch. It has a pronounced impact. While Malta put up a good fight initially subsequent raids betrayed the defenders fatigue more and more till even the Cr-42's were able to bag a couple more Hurricanes...their tired pilots asleep at the wheel.

I seem to remember that the map is considered to be at 30-mile scale. And while it can't be scaled to that, the ship speed is meant to equate to a 60-mile scale being 30-mile scale...
