Invasion beaches

I haven't seen any beach hexes in any of the screenshots, so I am wondering if only certain coastal hexes are vulnerable to an amphibious landing? Can Battleships/Cruisers provide bombardment against any defending troops occupying an invasion hex?

You can only invade at ports, and there is no naval bombardment.

Is Gallipoli considered a port? Wasn't that pretty much the only real naval invasion of the war, except Riga or something is tickling my mind.

I looked very close at the screenshots and couldn't see any city/port around Gallipoli. Surely this amphibious invasion would be a possibility. I am not aware of any amphibious invasion in the Battle of Riga. The Germans assaulted across a river on pontoon bridges though. Gallipoli is the only large amphibious invasion I can think of. Wasn't really in vogue in those days I guess and the outcome of Gallipoli certainly wouldn't have increased the popularity to try again soon I imagine. Admiral Fisher wanted to invade the German Baltic coast early in the war but nothing came of it.

The other opposed amphibious landing was at Fao (just south of Basra) in Mesopotamia.
 
So that you don't worry - you can repeat Gallipoli. I even managed to capture Constantinople after the landings!

Ah, good to know that we at least have the opportunity to get Gallipoli right. Grabbing Constantinople would be quite a coup. Is that accomplishment enough to topple the Turks and knock them out of the war?

Thanks for the snippet of info. Was the Fao invasion the effort to capture Baghdad? If so, yet another disaster following an amphibious invasion.[X(]

Fao was the first stage of securing the Anglo Persian oil fields to ensure that the Royal Navy had enough fuel to keep sailing.
Following initial successes by Townshed's 6th Poona Division who were able to achieve their original goals - the political masters ordered the 6th Poona Divn up to Baghdad to try to compensate for the disaster at Gallipoli. As you say - disaster followed for the men of that Divn.

They didn't give up then I recall - but defeat for the CP followed very soon afterwards because of action on the Western Front and so the real effect of my success was not clear. Nb it was a long time ago and much may have changed since in the many versions that have come out. You will have to try it for yourself!

For some reason, I always like playing the Turks as well whenever they are available. I guess it all started back with Europa Universallis. I am mostly a CP partisan, but if I loose my wits and decide to command the armies of the TE, I will look forward to kicking in the door of the delapidated structure of the Turkish hovel.[;)]
