Well, Malta's certainly took a large hit. The airgroups there are hurting & their morale is shot. I'm sure I can't sustain the losses I just took, but I doubt the Axis can keep up this pace of attack, either. The allies will try to hold their ground for now.

For good news, Malta's reporting no damage to the runways or aviation workshops. Also, the supply levels increased! They started the game at 20K and are now at about 26K - there was extra supply in the ground units there that dumped into the base. Despite that I still need to think about how I can fight more supplies through - 26K supply won't last very long.

Elsewhere in the Med

Against orders, some of my Egyptian-based bombers launched ineffective airfield strikes. (I wanted to stand them down but forgot - doh!)

An Italian TF is sailing south in the Ionian Sea - undoubtedly up to no good. The Malta airforce has been reinforced by a squadron of Beauforts.

The initial planning for Operation Pepperoni and Onions has begun...

Nik, you not remember that the map is scaled 1 hex=30 miles????[:D]
All the ships speed and aircraft range had to be rewritten.

And yes, supply NA seem to be very easy.
1-At best, the subs are useless. I doubled the durability but your efficience is very low. So many ASW/Search planes and a closed sea.
2-Many new squadrons of torpedo bombers in allied hands but, again, little real damage.

Hi guys,

I agree Nik. Still looks like it is too easy to squash Malta.

Re: aircraft ranges - I wonder something fremen - Liberator II's are showing as having the same range (or slightly less than Blenheims/Wellies for example. They should have more I think).

Yes Speedy, correct acording the Liberator II, this is because with its "normal" range it reach every base in this "tiny" map.[:D]

what can i say? There was so much to do last weekend, and "Attack of the Gargoyles" was playing on Sci-Fi while i was working on the mod. I think they needed to decrease the DUR of the Gargoyles and increase the speed of the B-17's....but thats just me.

Supply to NA -

it would probably help to lower supply levels in Italy at start, also fuel. There are a generous amount of search/recon planes. Might be worth a thought on reducing or even eliminating the recon planes (they greatly enhance attacks) A definate "problem" here is the efficiency of the search routines since they don't take into account the issues the R. Aeronautica had coordinating it's actions out at sea.

beta mk 2 will see a further reduction in AV support and a ratio balance @ start of servicable/unservicable which should make things a little dicier.

I'm still wondering about the long reach of many of the LB's.

Propaganda -

Chuck sucks. El Duche rocks.

pfff....since you havn't even started, (Pauk doesn't even have the scenarios and he plays the good guys no? The Axis?) you got nothing to complain about....unless you want your precious Malta swarmed with Italian aircraft operating at peak efficiency.

Englanders........too many Soccer ball blows to the head. Thats why we call it a "beta" [:'(]

That'd be right.

Jan 2nd, 1942

Only one attack against Malta today, but it's continuing to wear down my defenders:

Day Air attack on Malta , at 35,120

Japanese aircraft
CR-25 x 1
MC-200 x 16
Bf-109F-4 x 22
Re-2001 x 14
BR 20 M x 37
Ju-88A-4 x 19
Bf-109F-4 R2 Recon x 1

Allied aircraft
Hurricane IIc x 11
Spitfire Vc x 5
Beaufighter X x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
MC-200: 3 destroyed, 4 damaged
Re-2001: 1 damaged
BR 20 M: 2 damaged
Ju-88A-4: 5 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane IIc: 6 destroyed
Spitfire Vc: 2 damaged
Beaufighter X: 1 damaged
Beaufort I: 1 destroyed
Sunderland: 1 destroyed
Baltimore II: 1 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
10 casualties reported

Airbase hits 2
Runway hits 13

The attack came in at 25K feet. While I'm losing fighters faster than I'd like the airfield still remains undamaged.

Axis planes terror-bombed several peaceful villages in North Africa as well.

The transports I spotted near the foot of Italy are being guarded by a strong Italian naval force. My planes from Malta launched, but with no effect:

Day Air attack on TF at 39,116

Allied aircraft
Blenheim IV x 6
Wellington III x 3
Beaufort I x 6
Beaufighter X x 5

Allied aircraft losses
Beaufort I: 3 damaged

Japanese Ships
BB Conte di Cavour
BB Vittorio Veneto
BB Caio Duilio
BB Giulio Cesare

Invasion Malta? It would probably be too bloody without pounding Malta down more - I suspect those battleships are simply fighting supplies through to North Africa. Will the Royal Navy sail?
