PDS Problems

Post by jpmulli »

[&:] I purchased Maximum Football on CD and installed it yesterday along with the newest patch 149. After doing so in the Quick Play game all I had access to was the 8-man setup. Also I did not have a Windows Interface in the Play Development System and was unable to get it to work. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled the original game and tried it as is and everything worked fine. Then I added the older 139 patch. Quick Play worked fine and I was able to get PDS to work a little at least, although I still did not have a Windows Interface, but when I would create a new formation and attempt to create a play off it I would receive a black screen with the following message " Too few parameters.Expected1. in procedure ProcessPlayers - Press F9 to attempt to continue." When I try to continue I again get the same message and then receive another black screen with the message "Could Not Continue - Press ESC to Quit". I am using XP Pro on a Dell P4, 8400 3ghz w/1GB DDR SDRAM @ 533mhz, an ATI Radeon 128MB PCI-E -16 card and a Soundblaster Live 24 sound card. I made sure to install everything with my antivirus disabled. I am disappointed because I have been looking for a game that would rival or replace the fantastic old Front Page Sports FB Pro game. I love creating plays and perfecting them. Can someone help me out here?

In quick play mode, you are limited to whatever the selected league is. If you have the indoor league selected in League Play, then that is the roster you are using in Quick Play.
You can change rules to your hearts content, but they revolve around whatever league is loaded in League Play, which if its an indoor league, its the 8 man stuff.

David will have to speak to the other issues.

Jack,

Welcome to the Maximum-Football community!

I'll let David answer those questions.

Which Windows interface items are you missing when in the PDS?

Jack, I tried sending you this e-mail twice using the Message Board e-mail, but it keeps sending it to myself, so I will post it here, until I figure this out. The PNFl is about to start another season, and looking for new Owners.  Check out PNFL.com.  I am the Co-Commish, and we would like some new Owners.  Like you, I am looking for a replacement game for the great FBPro98, not there yet, but Max Football looks like it has a great chance!  While learning the new game, you could play in a great FBPro League, if you are still into it. BTW, if you have Custom Plays for FBPro98, I would love to see them. ~ Charlie 49ers

Hi.

It might help if you put issues into multiple paragraphs rather than one big one..
I purchased Maximum Football on CD and installed it yesterday along with the newest patch 149. After doing so in the Quick Play game all I had access to was the 8-man setup.

Weird, US rules should be the default. But I suspect you probably changed the rules before installing the patch.

The default quick play league is changed from the Leagues menu. Click the League button and change the league. Then go back to quick play.

Also I did not have a Windows Interface in the Play Development System and was unable to get it to work.

I'm sorry, but I really don't know what you mean. There is no windows interface in the game.

When I first installed the game from the CD I also immediately installed the 149 patch without ever starting or going into the game. When I tried to play a Quick Play game I could not change Leagues or the number of men from 8 to 11. I understand from your post that you cannot change the league after clicking on Quick Play and that it has to be changed from League before clicking on Quick Play, so that issue is resolved.

The Windows Interface I was referring to is the standard windows application page containing FILE, EDIT, TOOLS etc. in a drop down menu bar across the top of the screen. I might point out that on page #40 of the downloadable Maximum Football game manual (first sentence in 12.1 Interface) it states " The PDS uses a typical Microsoft Windows application interface"). I had that interface inside the PDS when using the original game with no patch installed. I was able to build plays and create new formations with no problem. However; once either the 149 or the 139 patch are installed all I have is a full screen of what appears to be from a DOS game. The PDS controls are there, in a somewhat different format and I am able to do some modifying but when I tried to create a new formation and attempt to create a new plan off it I get the error message " Too few parameters. Expected1. in procedure ProcessPlayers -PressF9 to attempt to continue" F9 would take me back to the page I was on but when I attempted to continue I would receive the second error message " Could Not Continue - Press ESC to Quit" and I would be kicked out of the game. This seemed to happen when I was trying to give commands to a player.

I suppose I could unistall everything and build all my plays using just the original game, then when I am done, install the patch and play the game, but what a hassle. I love the look of the game and consider it a worthy replacement for FPS Pro but only if the ability to build plays is easily available.

Ohhhhh.... Looks like you're looking at the old manual, or your manual didn't get updated in the patching process.

The PDS is no longer a Windows application. It's part of the core game and is available from the Play Development System Button on the title screen under Quick play. And no, no part of it was ever DOS.

Based on the description, I don't think your patch process worked properly. Either some files didn't get updated or they were updated to the wrong location.

I would recommend uninstalling the whole thing and trying again. I'm not sure why some patch processes fail but sometimes it happens.

If you continue to have trouble, it's likely because one of your databases isn't updating properly. I can send you a correct one if you still have problems with the PDS.

The PDS looks like this now (it's a screen shot of indoor play design, but you get the idea)
