RE: Synopsis of Operations - mid to late May 1942
1 June 1942 (Tokyo Time)
To: His Majesty Emperor Hirohito
Our forces have seized a second base on the continent of Australia, in addition to the airfield and seaplane base at Thursday Island. The aerodrome at Derby has been seized after the defending Australian garrison surrendered. Operations against the port town of Broome continue, it is likely to fall within the next week. The port city of Darwin will then be isolated from sea supply.

RE: Synopsis of Operations - mid to late May 1942
After the last two days of air combat over India and Burma IHQ has determined to no longer contest the skies over Burma...

This is the Mulligan'd turned Spence graciously granted...still bloody but not necessarily one-sided. NBy the way the powers that be have confirmed Sweep as a secondary mission is bugged. The aircraft assigned to fly a secondary sweep mission will fly either a secondary port attack or airfield attack at 2000 feet instead of the sweep.

Offensive missions are no longer an option in Burma/India. Radar coupled with aircraft parity = air superiority. He probably adjusted his altitude upwards as well ...I got lazy and left mine the same, iirc i may have had some fatigue as well.

Lets see 29 Hayabusa's destroyed in two days on the offensive with the pilots to boot. Better to play defense and save some pilots.

As my opponent pointed out...
On a brighter note...
06/06/42
Ground combat at Broome
Japanese Deliberate attack
Attacking force 3867 troops, 14 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 114
Defending force 3435 troops, 22 guns, 1 vehicles, Assault Value = 22
Japanese max assault: 99 - adjusted assault: 84
Allied max defense: 20 - adjusted defense: 10
Japanese assault odds: 8 to 1 (fort level 3)
Japanese forces CAPTURE Broome base !!!
Allied aircraft
no flights
Allied aircraft losses
C-47 Dakota: 2 destroyed
Japanese ground losses:
91 casualties reported
Guns lost 3
Allied ground losses:
4949 casualties reported

RE: Heavy Fighting Continues in Burma
DATELINE CALCUTTA - 24 JUNE 1942
Enemy air attacks have resumed on Chittagong and intense air fighting rages throughout the days. Enemy losses in planes and pilots are severe. Enemy bombers appeared over the city yesterday but were severely handled by our fighters. Clouds of Zeros escorted the bombers and fighting between rival fighter aircraft was intense. Some reports indicate that the Hurricane is proving to be a small match for the Zeros. In spite any handicap our fighters may have the enemy's losses have been severe. A drive in the country near any of our aerodromes shows the landscape littered with downed Japanese aircraft. Native laborers are being paid a bounty of 2 shillings for the identity tags of any dead Japanese aircrew they may happen upon.

RE: Heavy Fighting Continues in Burma
Continued Japanese Efforts in the CBI lead to the loss of 21 Allied fighters on July 1st compared to 13 Japanese fighters.
Meanwhile in the jungles of Burma, NW of Mandalay, two days of savage attacks by the Japanese eliminated the Allied bridgehead over the Irrawaddy. Fighting continues.

RE: Heavy Fighting Continues in Burma
When I was a kid, my father (who was in CBI) would tell me that every two weeks or so (during the war) there was an announcement that "Our force have crossed the Irrawaddy". But he did remark, that he and the guys he was with (who where usually in Ceylon) always wondered which way the British forces were going (since they never said) [:D].

Evidently the IJN APD's which arrive at Rabaul didn't get enough of a work up prior to their ASW patrol...or they really enjoy Sashimi....two of them ate fish from S-35.

RE: Heavy Fighting Continues in Burma
We're into July of 1942....
BURMA -
Relatively quiet except for the daily carpet bombing of Japanese forces in the bridgehead on the Imphal side of the Irrawaddy.
PNG-
There have also been raids by B-17's and B-24's on Port Moresby and Thursday Island.
SOUTH PACIFIC-
Luganville was reoccupied by Allied forces. Apparently it is being reinforced, evidence of this is in the form of flotsam recovered by IJN troops stationed at Lunga Point. The flotsam evidently orginates from ships which have apparently struck mines emplaced in the anchorage at Lauganville while Japanese survey teams were on the island.
CHINA-
About a week ago IJA units establised a bridgehead on the far bank of the Yangtze NW of Changsha. The establishment of the bridgehead resulted in the withdrawal of approximately half of the 26 Chinese units holding Changsha. Piecemeal efforts have been made by the Chinese to dislodge the bridgehead. Honan continues to hold in the north. Wuchow as well in the South although it has been isolated.
ELSEWHERE-
Quiet.
