GM Score: Are these people blind?!!

Post by Frozen Stiffer »

So I just finished my 2nd season of managing the Florida Marlins game-by-game. Year 1, a 2006 season, I came out in 3rd place in our division with a respectable, rookie-laden record of 74-88. I completed the 2007 season with a vastly improved record of 105 - 57, winning my division and eventually the World Series in game 7 against a really tough Seattle team. I've begun Post-Season activities and the first thing I'm greeted with is a slap in the face.

I feel that's a notable performance improvement. Interestingly enough, we had 31 more wins and 31 fewer losses on the way to winning the World Series. The only personnel changes from one season to the next was the acquisition of a new CF (Torii Hunter), a 5th starter (Casey Fossum) and a stable closer (Joe Nathan); so it's not like I bought the championship.

So after all that, my GM rating is a 88/100?!?!? What do I need to do to even hit the 90s, go undefeated?

So what does the GM score mean? Is it just a number only worthwhile for bragging rights? Does it have any significance other than to frustrate you? How is it determined? I'd really like to know how such a performance from a team can be justified with a rating of 88/100...

Who knows what those people think...they're a bunch of empty suits anyway.
Maybe they are trying to figure out if they are seeing improvement or simply a statistical fluke.  If you kick butt next season, that oughta make believers of 'em.

Maybe ? it's an 80/20 (this year and last year weighted average?)  --- I'm sure someone knows...

My theory on GM ratings is that maybe it has something to do with the interest factors of free-agents to sign or re-sign. Now, I don't use salaries or free agency but that's my best guess. Maybe perusing the XML would offer some clues?

I think the GM score goes back to you could be fired and loose your team. I'm not sure it has any meaning any longer.

I'm in my third season of a youth eccentric team, I made some moves in the first season and the 2nd season was simmed entired. Right now, my record is 44-39 with an approval rating of 91/100. Even the best team with the best record doesn't have a higher rating than I do.

The 56-26 New York (Yankees) Empires actually have an approval rating of 73/100.

I'll let you know after I simmed the season to see where it ends up at to give you a better idea of getting that 90s AR. I've made minimal moves so far so perhaps that's how I have such a high rating? I only know as much as I've observe.
