NEED HELP WITH ANW3

HAVE H3ANW, WHEN I TRY TO CONNECT TO WEB FOR MULTIPLAY I GET *FATAL ERROR, CLIENT AND SERVER NOT SAME VERSION** I WAS OK UNTIL I TRIED UNSUCESSFULLY TO DOWNLOAD SOME OF THE DIFFERENT BATTLES ONTO MY COMPUTER FROM THE NET. THAT'S WHAT THE CD BOX STATES THAT THERE ARE OVER 300 YOU CAN GET, RIGHT. I LOVE THIS GAME, BUT WITHOUT INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO OPERATE THE SCENE EDITOR, THE MULTIPLAYER CLIENT AND SERVER VERSIONS, UNDERSTANDING WHAT TO DOWN LOAD AND HOW TO BE ABLE TO PLAY IT. I'M LOST. LIKE I HAVE *NUKES ENABLED*, YET I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY SCENARIO'S WITH ANY NUKES OFFERED. HOW DO I WRITE MY OWN BATTLES, WITH THE EDITOR AND HOW DO I GET TO IT.[X(] FRUSTRATED, WITH BEING LIMITED TO THE SCENES THAT CAME ON THE CD AND MY OWN LIMITATIONS.

you´ve put a lot of questions in your mail. I´ll try to answer one by one as good as I can.

Which version of ANW do you have? The original 3.7.0? If you have registered at Matrix you can download the latest beta version 3.8.0 RC 8 at Matrix Games. Most people use it. I think the guys running a web server too. BTW what Internet server are you talking of? Tony Eischens´Stratsim server? Then just ask him, he´ll help you configuring your client. But first - read the threads here and on other places. You should find all you´ll need.

Anyway - this version update to the latest beta could be the solution for that one.

There are tons of scenarios on the various websites. But they use different databases. Where have you been? [;)] So if you - for example - download scenarios from HHQ you should use Ragnar Emsoy´s db2000 in the latest version 10.0.0. If you use scenarios designed for the Players´s Database, you should use the PDB 6.4.9. And so on. Installing databases under ANW and changing them in the launcher is not difficult. The databases have their instructions with them. Or just ask at the sites where you are going to download.

BTW what does it mean that you tried "unsucessfully to download"? You did not get the files? Error messages? Or you just cannot play them in your ANW? A little bit more precision, please.

We all love this game. That´s why we are all around on the various sites. People will help you to have fun with Harpoon. But don´t put 10 questions/problems in one sentence. Start with the basics and you´ll improve - and not be lost. No one gets lost in the Harpoon Community. [;)]

To go on...
1) If you bought ANW PC CD-ROM I think the manuals are on the CD-ROM in pdf format or not? BTW are you new to Harpoon or did you play the older versions of it?
2) Scenario Editor: look next reply
3) MP client: If you talk about the StratsimServer, read the threads around. Otherwise ask Tony Eischens.
4) ANW MP Server: Do you want to host games, too? Or just playing as client? If you want to host games, you have to start the server first, then your client, then the guy you play with should start his client. Details - look at the threads around.
5) What to download? If you play ANW only (not the older version H3 3.6.X) you should download those scenarios which have been tested under ANW. The designers give that information. You also need the database which fits - the ANW-compatible database the designer has used.
6) Nukes: There are lots of scenarios which have units with nuclear loadouts. Even many rather simple sub scenarios, for example "Power Sweep", have subs with nuclear loadouts. Try it.

You write your own scens with the scenario editor. How to do this technically should be part of your manuals. If you want to get hints and quality control designing your scens you can go for example to HHQ. There are a lot of help files which explain scenario design and HHQs standards to do so. There is also a "scenario testing ground" in the forum. There you can learn how tobuild a scen using HHQs quality standards.

And of course there are other sites and many guys around who will help you too.

Just do it step by step.

Start with it and ask your queestions - one by one. But since Harpoon is a real simulation you have to invest your share of time in it. Then you´ll get real return.
