about the new feature - range display

Post by m5000.2006 »

about the range display - i read somewhere that the player is NOT to see the opponent's units' range

yet, while playing against PO, i've noticed that it's sometimes possible to see PO's units' range during PO's turn

i don't know if the same is true for PBEM

has anyone noticed the same and can confirm?

is it intentional or a tiny bug?

When do you see it against the PO? If it is when the PO is moving, then that is not a worry during PBEM, as you do not get to see the player move in the same way as you see the PO move. In PBEM you only see the replay, and that does not contain range indicators.

yes, when the PO is moving

it may not be problem in PBEM, agreed, but it still is a kind of cheating against PO and gives you a slight advantage over it as you learn about its units' ranges and it allows you to work out better plans...

well, so if there is a bug in the game, you will quit playing it?

He didn't say quit. He said 'turn it off', which entails hitting the button before the PO starts to move. Anyways, watching the PO wehn it moved is pretty much cheating anyways. [:D]

yeah, i know what he said, the problem is that you seem to look at it from a point of view of someone who plays PBEM

PBEM is NOT the only way of playing toaw, playing against PO is a 'legitimate' way of playing this game too, playing against PO is as 'legitimate' as playing PBEM, there's lots of people out there playing this game against PO, i would even risk saying that more people play it against PO than PBEM

surely you don't want to divide players into two groups - the good ones - those who play PBEM, and the bad ones who play against PO and aren't worthy of patches

my question above should be understood this way:

if you play PBEM and there is a bug, what do you do? do you turn the game off? quit it? no, you wait for a patch to fix it

the same with the problem described above, it seems that it is a bug as it is against the TOAD's intentions of not showing the opponent's units' ranges, so the correct procedure, i imagine, is to fix it, not turn it off

a player who is playing against PO has the same right as a PBEM player, they are not to turn it off every time they end the turn or attack just becasue the turn may end, the feature should work correctly in the first place, and if it doesn't then it should be fixed, not turned off, and a player has the right to a bug-free, comfortable game reagrdless of how they play toaw PBEM or PO...

I have been known to play against the PO, by the way.
i would even risk saying that more people play it against PO than PBEM
Are you now suggesting that players that only play against the PO should get preferential treatment because there may be more of them?
surely you don't want to divide players into two groups - the good ones - those who play PBEM, and the bad ones who play against PO and aren't worthy of patches
Currently, the only one 'dividing' people up here is you. I said nothing about divising people up.
if you play PBEM and there is a bug, what do you do? do you turn the game off? quit it? no, you wait for a patch to fix it
Acutally, I played through the bugs, turning off what I had to to continue playing.
the same with the problem described above, it seems that it is a bug as it is against the TOAD's intentions of not showing the opponent's units' ranges, so the correct procedure, i imagine, is to fix it, not turn it off
It would seem that it could, in fact, be a bug, yes.
a player who is playing against PO has the same right as a PBEM player
Again, I didn't say that PBEM players were better that players that play against the PO.
they are not to turn it off every time they end the turn or attack just becasue the turn may end, the feature should work correctly in the first place, and if it doesn't then it should be fixed, not turned off, and a player has the right to a bug-free, comfortable game reagrdless of how they play toaw PBEM or PO...
I agree. I would also suggest that you not jump to any conclutions before you post next time. Especially nto based on a three sentence post.

i see that you trying very hard to pick on some parts of my post

so i suggest locking this subject as this discusion is pointless

TOAD will do what they consider best
