RHS TF problems using the Aden & Egress Channels

Post by Buck Beach »

When TF's end their turn on the left edge hexes of the map (less that 1-xx hexes) they stop and the ships are sent back to the arrival schedule. While they still show on the map you can't access them and the TFs are removed from the list of active TFs.

You may need to move the channels east one row so that the entire TF's path goes through valid hexes.

I'm playing RHSEOS 6.66

Maybe. They seem to work for me. But I will test. Will take a day.

Looking at past games, I see there ARE problems if you update to the new Level 6 pwhex file set in an OLD game.

But in Level 6 some TFs might be trapped in the new barriers by bad luck. And many are tasked to go to Calcutta - which isn't a legal destination for an ocean task force any more. Not sure why that is? But AI often thinks it can send things to river ports it cannot - since it has no brains - and they are ports. Never noticed Calcutta being so popular - but it looks like AI does not get along well with Aden based TFs re Calcutta as a destination.

That said, I do not duplicate your findings - so I am not sure what is going on? I will set up some tests.

I am not playing an old game continued on a new 6.xx map. Here is a simple test to see if it is my set up that is screwed up. Try setting the destination of any TF to a left/west edge hex. If you can do it I think I will have to reinstall.

I have a non-prefect interim work around by acting as a Harbor Master. I set a TF destination as the 1-xx at the entrance or the hex just before the non-numbered hex with the TF set as Patrol. They would be hexes 1-8, 1-96 and 1-148 (for those coming through the egress from the south edge of the board). When they reach the subject hex, reset their ultimate destination. This only works for primary TF that travel 2 hexes per turn (or even numbers if you will). If there is a hic up to refuel or a round off 3 hex move the TF goes into the twilight zone.

Sure would be better to reset the channel.

First new test: no confirmation. TFs working fine. Running second test (report in plus 5 hours).

I am unable to recreate this issue per se. However, I am not happy with AI controlled TFs re inland ports. But since AI controlling Allies never works - and AI controlling TFs always wastes most of your throughput - it isn't much of a change from an already awful situation.

I would try a fresh install of pwhex first. Then the data files - or at least the cam file and the location file. Both are critical.

I’m having the same issue.
Using 6.66 EOS
I tested ships from Perth with all 5 ships reset with a home port of South Atlantic Entry.
The Empire Celt and Ondina had a destination of South Atlantic Entry
The Orungal had a destination hex of 1,95
The Tulagi had a destination hex of 1,94
The Empire Confidence had a destination hex of 1,98

I was running with both sides as human to speed up the test, orders were given on Dec 7.

On 10 dec
The Empire Celt is now set to arrive at Aden in 1 day
AO Tulagi is at 0, 97 I cannot access her by double clicking the mouse but I can see the ship name if I hold the mouse over the ship
TK Ondina and AP Orungal are at 0, 95 with the same mouse access as above
Empire Confidence is at 1, 96 and acting normaly

On Dec 11
The Empire Celt is at Aden
AO Tulagi is now set to arrive at Sydney in 1 day
TK Ondina is now set to arrive at Tjilitjap in 1 day
AP Orungal is now set to arrive at Sydney in 1 day
Empire Confidence acting normally at 1, 100

On Dec 12
The Empire Celt is at Aden
AO Tulagi is at Sydney
TK Ondina is at Tjilitjap
AP Orungal is at Sydney
Empire Confidence acting normally 1, 104

Sid this is an issue and when coupled with the disappearing TFs due to the number of TFs existing, almost makes the RHSEOS unplayable. I THINK THAT THE SAME ISSUES EXIST WHETHER YOUR PLAYING AGAINST THE AI OR A HUMAN PBEM GAME.

Both look to be an easy fix for you that know what you're doing (but maybe as usual I don't know what I'm talking about).

No problem we cannot see is "easy to fix." There is no way to know you "fixed" it!

And I am not seeing either issue. I only had one TF that had a later date - and it obviously was only on one side.
I have set it to game start for now. I don't think the date issue is related to TFs disappearing. I don't know what is either? I hope it is corrupted files. But I am looking for it.

IF I ever see it - I can fix it. UNLESS I can find a file set that does it - I cannot fix it.

Limiting the possibilities is always good. However, unless an issue is reported elsewhere - ALL tests are always in EOS.
It has more things to test. I am always running it. And my TFs run fine - except for things like AI controlled TFs running without cargo, to stupid destinations, for reasons known only to electrons.

IF it isn't present in CVO then the problem cannot be pwhex - it is common to both.

That implies a cam file or location file issue.

Cam is easy to remake. Location is almost impossible.

I will issue 6.669 with a new cam file. In a matter of minutes.

Sid,

Re CVO6.66 I am finding TFs from Aden are not following the marked channel to reach Karachi/Bomba, Also although I can now form Task Forces beyond TF1185 I am now up against disappearing Task Forces from TF1249 onwards . I assume this limit is to do with slot 3999 which is a Capetn- Singapore TF with a delay of 411222. All other Task Forces at the beginning of the Scenario have a delay set to 0. Is there a workaround to enable more TF's to be formed?

DavidR..Are you using the newest mapwork showing the Aden route which looks like a crooked finger, or are you using the art which has several snake-like twists to it???

m10bob,

Ok thanks, I backtracked through the map downloads and found a set of maps that I did not place into the Art folder. Have just done so and now have the "crooked finger" map channel and the TFs now follow this path.

Still up against the TF limit though.

We have also learned that if you upgrade the map DURING a game, any ships which HAD been in sea hexes which are "upgraded" by sea lane walls/land,etc, will remain frozen in whatever their new environment is..
Nobody has come close to completing RHS yet because it is an ongoing project.
Sid has been able to enhance radar/sonar, supply sinks, land movement, etc, but we are all learning the possibilities/limitations together..

As of Level 6.669 - until and unless it is determined not to be an issue - there are no delayed task forces at all. 5.669 will be the same.

When we changed the Aden approach channel, it was possible for a backfitted game to have a TF in a hex now entirely blocked from access to the regular sea. Older games cannot use pwhex files later than 6.66 or so.

It appears that Levels 5 and 6 are substantially working and quite playable. Some games go on for years with no technical issues. However, there may be a problem in RHSEOS Level 6. This may or may not be addressed by the 6.669 update - and if not it will be in 6.670. If need be I will revert to not using column zero - which is not a big deal in Level 6 - and I never did use it in Level 5. I hope to get it working for Level 6 and 7. Similarly, a big TF of historical import was added - and it was delayed to Dec 22. This seems to be a problem - and it is now appearing early. IF you let the ships sail they will miss their cargo!

I am going to do a Level 5 pwhex set and return to completing Level 7 - which ONLY needs to get a final pwhex set.
This means I have to "rebuild" Australia and part of New Zealand (the rest already being done).
