I was flying the 'big wing' LRCAP over that base 2 days earlier............oh, for a touch of luck.ORIGINAL: veji1
Yikes... If he could just send a 400 B29 raid.. it would be so great... To bad you didn't have that wing when he visited the home island earlier on...

In fact I lost 230 aircraft on Sept. 3rd.........2 Kamikazi groups launched.....but being unable to fly above the CAP all died......before seeing a ship........apart from the 3 wags which Kami'd some PT boats...............

4th September 1944..................
Kirishima...CA Maya and 4 DDs detatched from AAG 2 and moved on the enemy fleet at Kuching......
Upon arriving they were surprised to find enemy ships there.............go figure.............
Royal Sov. the CA Hawkins and a CL with 6 DDs........opened fire......before my ships could open fire one of the DDs was sunk and another badly damaged.........our ships broke contact to reorganize.......
We then re-entered Kuching harbour..........and were surprised to find enemy ships there........go figure......
The Royal S. hit Kirishima with 2- 15 inch salvos....slowing her speed to 6..........and starting several fires........
Hawkins hit Maya.....causing only minor damage........but 2 more DDs were sunk......
Then....at last we opened fire...........Kirishima hit Royal S. 3 times with 14 inch shells.......she is badly hurt........but can still make good speed......
Hawkings is also damaged.........
As the sun rose we broke away .....Maya makes good speed to Cam. Bay.....but Kirishima.....is dead in the water making 4 knots
The last DD is dead and floating ....but only just......................
I fear the allied subs will get Kirishima ...if the planes do not.........and Royal S.....is already 4 hexes away and near safety......
2 x CL with 4 DD escorts and another 5 DD SAG will hit tomorrow.............what I need now is luck........just a little............a smidgen...................

5th September 1944..............
SAG 7 - 3CLs and 4 DDs entered Kuching harbour just after midnight and encountered a transport TF of around 20 ships.......including 6MSW 4 DE and 2 DDs..............after surprising the allied ships.........we sank 2 DEs and a DD badly damaging another.........but the CL Isuzu was hit by a torpedo.......her speed was slowed to 3 and she was sunk by Helldivers when the sun rose.......
SAG 9 - 5 DDs entered Kuching harbour at around 1:30 am..........and encountered a seperate transport TF of around 25 ships........including 2 DDs and 2 DEs and at least 1 MSW.........after surprising the allied ships we sank an AK....and badly damaged all the escorts........but in the course of the action the DD Trathen......displayed excellent gunnery and badly damaged 2 of my DDs......one of which sunk due to the surface action........when the sun rose.....the other badly damaged DD was sunk by Avengers.......and then the remaining 3 were attacked by Helldivers at full range......and 2 were sunk.........
Next turn SAG 3 - Yamashiro and 2 Cas and 4 DDs will go in .........
Kirishima........has slowed from 5 to 3.....and her float damage has gained 10 points to 56......I fear she is lost......
One of my CVEs was hit at Miri by three bombs.....only light damage but she will detatch from the tankers she is protecting and move for HK......
Speedy's Superforts hit Tokyo....destroying 60 HI.......Speedy lost 30 of the 180 Superforts....I lost 15 fighters........

Wow -- impressive amount of surface combat. No one can fault you for not making an effort. But Maya fighting to a draw against Hawkins? A court-martial is clearly in order[:D]

Thanks..........Capt.............The captain of the Maya is now in charge of a garbage scow........off the coast of Siberia.........
6th and 7th September 1944...........
Speedy's invasion TF has moved away from Kuching......a small victory...but Kuching...in time will fall........
Of more concern is a TF I have been tracking for 4 turns now.........only CAs reported...but has the feel of a Carrier TF.....moving North from Timor........if it is ....it will be fleet carriers....and is a big problem for me....
I moved 2 - NIK George Sqdrns to Kendari .....one a Kami group.. the other to catch his milk-run bombers.......but Speedy spotted the move......and a group of p-47 came a-sweeep'n....I lost 25 of the escort Georges....the Kami's didn't launch....so they have moved on..........
If this is a carrier group...and it reaches Sinkawang unscathed........the something will hit the other thing............if you take my meaning......
180 superforts hit Singapore....a mixed CAP of Niks/Tony/Zeke/Frank/Irving......shot down 21....we lost 20 in the air and another 15 on the ground.........
Kirishima is now 6 hexes away from Camranh Bay....and has a ASW group attached........but the odds are still against her.......97 sys ....67 flt...........

Lady Luck, once again, turns her back on me............
Kirishima is torpedoed..................now 98 sys 91 flt........speed 1....... 2 hexes from Camranh Bay...................I have 5 ASW TFs around her but she will sink next turn....but I will not scuttle....but live in false hope............the sub also sank one of her ASW screen.....
CVE Taiyo was also hit by a sub...50 sys.....48 flt.....6 hexes away from Manila...........2 ASW TFs will join her next turn ....but she is a long way from safety..........
I did sink one of Speedy's subs.....but that is little comfort..............
Off to drown my sorrows...................and they will take some drowning................

RE: Surface Scraps
Hmmm."Drowning" is perhaps an unfortunate phrase. well, it's to be expected that USN subs will get lethal by the latter half of 1944. At least you can reflect that Speedy is probably taking subs off of anti-convoy duty to go after your cripples.ORIGINAL: fabertong

9th September 1944.......
Kirishima steamed into Camranh Bay today.....flags waving....much cheering as crowds gathered to watch her slow progress........she then turned over and sank.............which put a bit of a dampner on the party spirit.........farewell Kirishima.....[&o]
The CVE Taiyo making 18 knots and with 26 ships on ASW patrol....cut within 120 miles of Manila.......she was then.....quite literally....cut in two...by three torps from Speedy's subs............Farewell Taiyo......[&o]
Speedy has a CV TF moving toward Okinawa.......I've been tracking them for 5 turns.......and today they were under cloud cover all day....only 120 miles from Ok..............shame......I have 240 Kamikazi's there waiting for a chance .................

RE: Surface Scraps
Sorry guys for the slow updates........work....again.........I'll just run through the highlights of the last 5 turns.......and then start regular updates again......
Obviously Speedy's subs are still getting 1-2 ships per turn.....every 5 turns I'll sink one of his subs.......
Speedy has 4 active carrier forces..........
One off Miri.....which caught and destroyed a TK group........and a group of AKs
One off Kuching.....protecting his ongoing landings here...which sank a ML at Singapore....
One of Ulithu.....which destroyed a 10 ship troop convoy and the Naval BF with it.........it was in turn attacked by 60+ Kamikazis.....with the return of 3 hits......which all appeared to bounce off the carriers .......so no joy there..........this force returned to Saipan and has grouped with at least one other(the last) and is moving on Iwo Jima......
Speedy has closed the airfields at Soerabaja(again)...Singapore/Iwo......and I suspect will move to close Batavia/Palambang.........
He also now has a 4-1 advantage at Kuching.....and has a mass of troop transports at Rangoon......so his new flanking move is days away....
I did sneak a 4xDD SAG into Kuching past his 2 carrier groups.........all four were lost in a night action against the allied SAG including 1 CA 1CL and 6 DDs....one of his DDs was badly damaged....
May one offensive move is AAG 1 3x Unryu class CVs.....which for the last 3 weeks has sat between Wake and Saipan..........today it's prey arrived.......a troop and supply convoy......sadley my 70+ pilots failed .......and only hit 4 x AKs in his convoy.........AAG 1 will now have to retire full speed........as Speedy will try and catch me as I retreat......very disappointing....
