Ok, Speedy and I just started WiTM Fremen scen/Nik mod 5.0.... I'm expecting somewhat different game than 'regular' scenario not only due to changes in air combat model. From what i saw in the quick peek of enemy ground forces, I must deal with more enemy units. Speedy can go into details, but i can say that this is encouraging mod for the Allies (wonder myself if i would be able to capture Tobruk at all)... still, my extraordinary skills will prevail and i will kick my crappy opponent![:'(]

As Pauk says we are starting this great enhancement to an already great Scenario. Nik has tweaked quite a few things. More changes on the Allied than Axis side but that because if i'm honest more have been noted for the Allied side!
 
Pauk - for the future if you find anything odd/un-realistic/a-historical speak up[:'(]
 
The Allied OOB has been brought upto date to include forces historically available in this time frame - for example Poles, NZ'ers etc.
 
A2A tweaks have been made.
 
Allied Squadrons are mainly 'USA Army' now to allow the Allies the same freedom to upgrade squadrons as the Axis rather than having to wait until May 1942
 
Malta has received substantial amounts of Eng to allow rapid repair of airfields abnd give Malta a bit more staying power.
 
Submarines for both sides have received exp increases to allow a better chance of attack.
 
Italian heavy surface units have been re-vamped to incorporate the correct armour layout = better chance for them in combat now.
 
Plane loadouts have been tweaked to allow more planes to carry torps = higher risk for using Naval assets in this 'pool of death'.
 
Starting positions of the Allied LCU's reflect a more historical situation.
 
Port's removed from bases between Tripoli and Tobruk to reflect the critical and historical importance of capturing Tobrruk for the Axis = long supply lines otherwise.

Both of us are here long enough to know if the A(xis) FB tries to speak he will get a usual portion of "hey, that wasn't possible in RL, why should be allowed in the game" arguments[:'(][;)]

Seriously, Axis player is always in very unpleasant situation. If he achive something good, then the game sucks (and we need more restrictions to Axis become this wasn't possible in RL)... if Axis player sucks, well, then some of us calling that a good design[:D]

So far i did not have any major complaints for the Allies in the Fremen mod - arguments you've mentioned are valid ... my complaints for the Fremen stock game are: subs are next to useless in the Fremen stock; supply transport to the North Africa was quite easy. Overall it really seems that it is too easy game for Axis... regarding Brits, my only complaint is that Royal Navy is real Death Star (but i want to test it little further)....

As for the Nik mod - i do belive that he included historical units, but im not sure what i can do against Brits if he transfers his rear-area troops (there are quite a few divisions in Palestine and Delta) in the frontlines) - but also would like to test it before i start to complain about it.... i could be wrong, of course....

I have a question for Nik also: what about Axis industry? I didn't want to touch and change anything because i do not feel that would be fair move: expanding Japanese industry if she is able to capture intact oil and resource centers are logical, but i can not justify such move for Italians... what are your thoughts about that? Of course, other oppinions are more than welcomed!

I just want to add that WiTM is fantastic! A lot of fun, turns are done in 10 minutes and this is really refreshing after spending hour and half for a single WiTP turn... I'm strongly recommend WiTM to everyone[:)]

We are willing to please Duce... Malta reciving another heavy punch! Enemy lost 44 ac today while we lost 28 ac. A2A was strongly in our favor 19-1, we torched 24 enemy ac on the ground (axis lost 7 on the ground) but ops losses and flak (14!) increased our losses significantly. However this was necessary - Malta will be closed down! I suspect that remaining Maltese pigeons (Englander calling them airmen) are quite demoralised)....

I agree RN is a DS in the stock mod. I think we should play this one more seriously though. I am happy to have a test battle again at sea. You should perform better this time since your BB's have been tweaked historically.
 
There are more units my end (they were historically as you say) but i'm NOT going to rush them all to Tobruk for example to keep it realistic.
 
You have squashed Malta again. Upto 52/43 damage now. Not sustainable at this point in time. Good job.

Are you guys using the new Phwex map data? should make things more intersting vs WWI warfare in the base hexes.

Just FYI, you guys should play with a houserule limiting max altitude of bombing attacks to 25k due to NM changes to make flak effective, and because even at ultra high alts above the flak ceilings...you can still get a large consistant # of airbase hits.

As for the Nik mod - i do belive that he included historical units, but im not sure what i can do against Brits if he transfers his rear-area troops (there are quite a few divisions in Palestine and Delta) in the frontlines) - but also would like to test it before i start to complain about it.... i could be wrong, of course....

I have a question for Nik also: what about Axis industry? I didn't want to touch and change anything because i do not feel that would be fair move: expanding Japanese industry if she is able to capture intact oil and resource centers are logical, but i can not justify such move for Italians... what are your thoughts about that? Of course, other oppinions are more than welcomed!

Some of the rear area units start the game with heavy disablements to simulate either their rebuilding/training or in the case of 7th Armored div, their tired status.

If things prove too tough for the Axis i will probably make some more adjustments (thats what the beta is for anyway) For example, Tobruk may not deserve it's fort level status since this scenario tech covers Round II for Rommel and he was able to take the fortress though this was due in part to British mismanagement. Also i plan to reduce the disablements for more starting Axis units. The map changes will also help flanking maneuver attempts.

Additionally you have more capable Stuka squadrons now....longer reach (30mile conversion) and 500kg and 1000kg SAP bombs. (the latter of which can penetrate the rebuilt Brit BB's and the flight decks of armored carriers)

Axis Industry -

I've only started looking at it. Per Fremen, he initially designed the Italian economy to last through 42 (declining) so it appears Resource and Oil are insufficient to meet needs (i did notice dropping levels of industry and supply) I'm more of the preference that the economy be balanced (self sustained) but at a level where the Italians can't become a powerhouse. Places like Athens should have daily supply from the Reich.

Plane loadouts have been tweaked to allow more planes to carry torps = higher risk for using Naval assets in this 'pool of death'.

Some loadouts have been tweaked and i added some missing planes (Martlet II, Albacore) but i didn't increase torpedo loadouts (still just SM-79T and Beufort) because I think having too many of those types would produce a situation where the navies of each side can't operate and the theater would become a "Mini - Pacific" totally dominated by airpower (because air search and attack is so much more efficient than RL...combine that with torpedoes....aiee)

RN will have to watch out for the Stuka's though.

Since i'm not an "arteeest" the map will still look the same, but movement is now different. Also not readily apparent on the new map is the Quatra depression (impassible hexes)...added to prevent anyone going around El Alamein from the south....there's only a front door on land for Rommel to come knocking (if he gets that far)

Italian heavy surface units have been re-vamped to incorporate the correct armour layout = better chance for them in combat now.

Anyone can say me the correct data introduced? I use the CONWAYS FIGHTING SHIPS, i think is a great source and very trusty.

Acording to DS effect in the RN ships. In most of my testing, in naval battles between ALL italian capital ships, 5 BB, against ALL the british, 4 BB, the draw was very usually.

Hi Fremen,

I think he was referring to the beta comment "Italian BB armor scrub" that i listed. It appears that in the beta you pointed me too, the Cavour and Doria classes had 80mm armor belts. (3.1 inches) Fixed it using Conways. There was a minor scrub on Littorio using Garzke...but there was a choice between several sources. I simply chose Garzke because his books on modern BB's are much more in-depth than Conways.

I havn't looked at the other ships much yet....i trust you've done your homework and don't feel the need to scrutinze EVERYTHING asap. I'm sure the Doria/Cavour thing was just a typo. Kind of like my Alabcore first attempt [:D]

Three book series on US, Allied and Axis battleship of the Second World War. Excellent series overall....a tad bit over generous in the US book regarding strengths/weaknesses compared to the Axis/Allied where every weakness is nitpicked or at least mentioned.

Fremen i have sent you screenshots of Italian BB armor configs.
 
The draw or  Italian advantage with same  number of BBs when they employ Littorios should be the usual  in day light and at night the advantage is for british. Btw a player that wish to follow italian behaviour should put italian fleet to retire in case of night action. That was their tactics: escape all night action.
 
Concerning Africa,  Italy keep it supplied till the end.

Italy continued convoys, but the level of supply fluctuated depending on the time period.

actually, no....one has to read up on the campaign. Statistics (even when they are accurate), can be interpreted in all sorts of ways, particularily when they are generalized. Clay Blair also came up with some great 'statistics' too which led people to make some fairly brazen opinions. (the famous 99% of all incoming loaded traffic reached port)

There were critical periods during the war in the Med where much of the incoming supply was interdicted which led to serious problems for Rommel. There were also periods of time when Italian convoys were unmolested due to the British not having the strength to run interdictions. The Italians also ran "convoys" to less threatened sectors too which often were not molested.

(I place convoys in quotes because on average an Italian "convoy" consisted of only 1-2 ships.)
