Editor?

Post by pad152 »

Does the current beta version contain the editor?

Will the game ship with the editor?

Can you create new campaigns/battles with the editor or just edit existing ones?

Can you edit units (ships, aircraft, etc.) with the editor?

Thanks

Hello...

The current beta version contains a broken version of the editor designed for in house only and may not be distributed.

Yes, the campaign editor comes with the game, I think. We wrote one for the game. I am not sure if it will be on the distribution CD or will be a download. David will decide that.

The editor will allow you to edit existing user campaigns or create new ones. You will not be able to save over the campaigns that come with the game. However, you will be able to load them, edit them and then save them in a non-official game slot. The editor handles the 20 official slots and 180 user slots.

The end user will be able to edit locations, ships, air groups, leaders and campaign data.

Hope this Helps...

Mike: If users can edit ships, will the game inform a player if
his opponent has changed the characteristics of a ship?

Else a player could be playing in a custom campaign and never know
if the other player has altered the combat capabilities of one or
more of his ships. If there is no notification, this would leave
the door wide open to cheating. With the player having no way
of knowing about it, short of opening the campaign in the editor
and laboriously going through every ship on the enemy side and
checking all their values against the default ones in UV.
Which isn't practical to do.

Troublesome

If that were to be the case...it would certainly diminish from the appeal of PBEM games.

Hello...

We have added security measures so that you will be able to play one of the official campaigns, knowing they have not been modified. When you load the game and it asks for your password, it says on the screen what the game name and campaign number are and if it is an unmodified Matrix campaign or a user created or modified campaign.

So, you should play one of the campaigns that come with the game (or are released later, by us), if you have no great trust in your opponent.

If you are going to play a campaign that he made up or modified, you will need to trust that he did not give his PT boats 16" guns, all his pilots 150% skill. We would need to prevent the campaign author from editing anything at all, to keep him from giving himself 40 battleships, while you only get three sloops.

Hope this Reassures...

Hmmmm.... that last bit sounds like

the USN versus the RN in, oh, 1803 or thereabouts. I wonder if the editor could be used for some "what-if" and/or alternative history type scenarios. I used to take the oulde PacWar and do some interesting things - like scuttle the Yamashiro/Fuso/Ise/Hyoga and make them into Amagi's with 16's instead of 14's and lots of speed - create some more Shokaku's, that sort of stuff. BTW - on the same line - are the available ships limited to just those built - or are other designs available (Montana, DesMoines, Yamato20, etc.)

Hello...

The editor allows the end user to create and place bases, land based units, pilots, officers, air groups and task forces. He will be able to modify individual ships, but not create new ship classes. So, you will not be able to create a Yamato20 class. But, you will be able to create a Yamato class battleship ship called Yamato20 and modfify the speed and armor and arm it as you will.

The editor was designed to allow the end user to create new campaigns, which will selectable and playable from within the game. Certain data that is used by all campaigns was left out of the editor, because to change that would change all campaigns.

Got to get back to work...
