Newbie ?s re: TF refueling and repair

Post by FlipTrac_511 »

Hello. I'm new to this forum even though I got UV when it was first released. Only now have I started playing it with a fresh installation and patch 2.5 on top of it. I'm getting a feel of things playing the tutorial scenario but I'm having problems with my TF's running home all on their own.

Even when I've sent them to ports that have Fuel they don't seem to refuel. I'll have them docked for days and I don't see their fuel levels increase. If I send them out they run back home the next turn! Moreover, I don't see damaged ship being repaired. Subs also seem to have a mind of their own after several turns. I'm sure I'm missing details but I'm RTFM'ing as well. Thought I'd poke around here though for tips. Thanks!

P.S. Happy Easter!

When the TF is parked in a port with fuel, you will see a button among those on the right side of the TF screen that says "Refuel TF from Port" (or something like that - I've been playing WITP and WPO for a long time as well, so the exact words might be slightly different). You have to click this button to refuel the TF. If there's a replenishment TF in the same hex, you will be able to sue the "Refuel TF at sea" button.

Damaged ships will repair with the following:
Size of port is most important 3 or 4 will help with fires but not flooding 5-6 help with flooding 7-9 for the real reairs.  A heavily damaged ship needs a 7-9 port to prevent sinking in the port and Pear Harbor or Japan do the heavy stuff but might not return the ship to you.  Once I have a ship with no fires or flooding but heavy systems damage I send them back to PH or Japan.
Supplies in port, none and it's a wasted stop
Time, time and more time.  The more damage, the more time.

A task force set to retire will return to base when it reaches the destination you plotted for it.  Set it to patrol and it'll stay there, but remember it'll need fuel to travel.

Subs must be set to human control if you want them to go where you want.  Computer control and they have a mind of their own.

I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.

Thanks for the help folks.  I figured it out.  I wasn't aware you could click on some of the text in the TF info and change its settings.

You can click on any yellow text on any UV screen and this will either access further data ( e.g. ship name ) or sort highest to lowest / or vice versa ( e.g. Type, Endurance, Speed etc.) or change from Human to AI control (or nominate your Patrol / Retirement status or change your reaction status if on a TF screen ).
Clicking on an arrow (in a circle) allows you to give/change orders. If there's no arrow against a phrase it's either not available at all or not available at present due to circumstances.

There is a lot that can be done, found out etc., with/from the screen info. and lots of different screens with different info..
Read the rules. It's all there, and so much more than touched on above.

Thanks!  Getting the hang of things, but I can't wait to graduate to WITP and watch those Zekes go down at the mercy of superior U.S. fighters.

Oh, you'll get to that point quicker in UV, unless you start a late war WITP scenario.
