Treespider's CHS- v1.04

Post by treespider »

My mod is getting closer to completion everyday -

Primary changes -
1. Additon of 35+ bases to China - More places to garrison....

2. Redux of the Chinese Orbat that I originally reduxed. - 95% of the Chinese Central Army Divisions are represented... the others will be in warlord corps of two or three warlord divisions each....Chinese Units will have a severe reduction in support squads which will curtail their offensive potential as well as most of the corps being stationary.

3. Recalibration of aircraft speeds in terms of knots.

4. Reduction in the size of most airbases on the map.

5. Reduction in pilot experience.

6. Reduction in aircraft weapon accuracy.

Among other things.....

4. Reduction in the size of most airbases on the map.

Do you mean starting size or potential size of airfields?

It's in the Design/Editor section somewhere but the short answer is both.

This is looking good, but what have you done to the IJ TO&E to help them is garrisoning these bases?

More than likely, the IJ LCU's in China proper need to be looked at also.

Who said they need help? The help they had IRL was next to worthless....not completely worthless...just next to it.

Problem with the game now is that the Japanese can easily garrison what they already have and then go on the offensive. Whereas IRL when the Japanese went on the offensive they couldn't stay on the offensive for long because they had to return to their base cities.

In any event I do plan on adding some Nanking Army and Manchukuo units to the mix. Problem for the Japanese is they are extra mouths to feed and most will not have any assault strength....but the Japanese will be able to place a unit in a base for defense.

As far as the Chinese - I have included 54 Central Army Divisions, 29 2-DIV Corp, 30 3-Div Corps, 4 2-3-Div Cavalry Corps - so far. Of the corps I have rated 20 of them as Para capable allowing them to be dropped behind enemy lines and represent Nationalist Corps that functioned as guerilla outfits. The Chinese have also been weakened by reducing the amount of support available in each unit and by recalibrating the TO&E's to reflect the reality on the ground.

Regarding the Communists - I have created three static Guerilla base forces each with about 5000 AV...one at Yenan, one next to Peking, and one next to Tsinan. The bases they are at will receive enough Daily supply to keep them well fed and allow for the operation of the dozen or so Communits guerilla brigades that will arrive over the course of the war.

New base list to follow....

Sounds great.

1. Do the Chinese units include the 'static' Warlord Corps? If so, which approach did you use to make them static?

2. Burma now looks overloaded with bases compared to other parts of the Pacific Rim with far more infrastructure. I know that the base-based (pun intended) game design forces this, in part, but if you are going to add more bases in Burma, you should consider breaking up one or more of the CW brigades in Burma to cover them, and prevent the IJA from seizing four or five undefended bases with an airdrop on turn one. (I doubt the CW brigades, especial the Burma Frontier Force, were as consolidated in IRL as they look in the game -- of course, I'm saying this without actually looking up their dispositions.)

Most of the Warlord Corps will have a single non-TO&E device "At Start". I have designated slot 255 as Chinese Warlord with a Load Cost of 9999. If the Japanese attack the warlord corps if and when the warlord is killed the corps will be forever free to wander the map.
2. Burma now looks overloaded with bases compared to other parts of the Pacific Rim with far more infrastructure. I'm going to check my sources on the location of the Burmese units "at-start" locations. As with everything me thinks they may not be entirely accurate....but maybe they are.

Give me some likely base locations and I will try and can squeeze them in... My criteria however is to add bases where there will be significant game impact and not some coast guard station in the Alaskan Panhandle...
Only candidates I can think of would be in Australia and India. Which I will probably review as well...I have some excellent period maps which is what I used for China and Burma.

Thanks for the quick reply. It would add some flavor to the game if you could somehow ID the Chinese Warlord units in the unit names (either Warlord, or the name of the faction, or somesuch).

Re: bases, I'm *not* asking to squeeze more bases in -- but consider garrisoning the new bases you add. It is very easy for the IJA to sweep up empty bases with company-sized airdrops in the opening days. (edit: I see now that you intend to do this, thanks)

I should probably resent the Alaskan Panhandle crack -- since I researched the Alaskan bases for CHS -- but I don't, 'cause you're right. If you ever decide to mess around over there I can only suggest that you delete Oligalala (sp?) which is a small island group in the Aleutians that is a hold-over from stock, had no strategic value, and neither side ever considered occupying, AFAIK.

At Blackhorse's request I did a quick study on the Burma OoB and opted to eliminate the Burma Frontier Force Brigade, 1 Burma Rifles, and 2nd Burma Rifles and the base at Pyinmana. I replaced the Brigades with 12 battalions:

Chin Hills Bn, Burma FF
Myit. Bn, Burma FF
N Shan Bn, Burma FF
S Shan Bn, Burma FF
Kokine Bn, Burma FF
3 Bn, Burma Rifles
4 Bn, Burma Rifles
9 Bn, Burma Rifles
10 Bn, Burma Rifles
11 Bn, Burma Rifles
12 Bn, Burma Rifles
13 Bn, Burma Rifles

And then I placed them as near as I could to their positions on Dec 1, 1941.

The Source for the changes was HP Wilmott and the following website...
http://homepages.force9.net/rothwell/burmaweb/index.htm

In any event here is what Burma at start now looks like -
