While in the North, Japan overwhelms the defenders, and the Menado garrison, who does not like the desert at all, tries to head for the coast via Cloncurry. They've heard of great curries served there[X(]

It should probably be obvious that the allies are planning to attack Baker island.
Betties from Baker can and do interfere with Oz bound convoys. At the same time, Luganville is too strongly garrisoned at present for the allies to attack with the forces available.

Enterprise and Saratoga fail to launch attacks, for some inexplicable reason. Recon aircraft from Baker Is. spots the carriers. Reluctantly Spruance returns to Baker Is, still hoping to be able to mount an attack.

The Japanese forces, now leave Albany and start the long trek up north to their nearest relief in Geraldton. Will they make it there?
Like the 10000 hoplites stranded in Persia trying to make their way home, the Japanese now try to make it "home"

Taliking about returning home, the first phase of operation return home is half way done.
An AP TF in transit to Tricomalee, to pick up the 9th AIF div. It is escorted by American CVEs. They will arrive at Trico, link with British carriers and return the 9th AIF back to OZ.
The reason for this elaborate set up is that the previous AIF division repatriated had to hang out in the Indian Ocean for weeks until the enemy carriers got out of the way. They arrived in Albany just on the nick of time.
