It's a bug

Finally figured it out. The game wouldn't recognize the mouse pointer. As I mentioned, I had installed a new mouse driver. So I wondered if the game looked at the mouse driver when it was installed and then was incapable of picking up the new one. That is apparantly what happened. I uninstalled and reinstalled and it works fine. Funny nobody with computer experience was able to come up with this. Anyway, a sticky with this problem/solution wouldn't be a bad idea.

It's because I'm still not sold that this is the real reason. The game does not 'look' at the mouse driver when it is installed. The mouse is initialized when the program is launched.

Interesting.  Then why would uninstalling/reinstalling fix it?

Magic.  Heh.  That's a good one.  Yeah, at least I could fix it.  Sometimes computers drive me crazy.  [:)]
