Little Rock

Post by Moltke71 »

Why is Little Rock, ARK not named? I have it surrounded but cannot besiege it because it doesn't show as a target.[:@]

Thanks, that may explain why I can't besiege it but not why its name is not on the map.

Little Rock is in the Arkansas River province.  We decided to name all river provinces after the river so that it'd be clear to players that they were river provinces.  If you put the mouse over the Little Rock city icon the little white box next to the mouse cursor tells you want province the piece under the mouse is in.

Jim,

You can also click on the province (the river) and then click on the button/name above the displayed buildings (the way you would normally go to a city detail screen). That will bring up the city detail screen for that province and show you that the city is named Little Rock.

Right. The same applies to Memphis, Nashville, Raleigh, etc.

I muust be missing something then. I had divisions in White River and Ouchita provinces but neither would move to the Arkansas River (Little Rock) province. Do I need a naval unit?

Nope... Cant say why other than try pressing the river it self not on the city for the move order to take. Let know if it helps.
Or is it possibly mid winter? things rarely move much in dec- jan.

Jim,

Are you saying you ordered them to move and they didn't? Sounds like they failed their initiative checks. If you pull up the unit history for the container it should tell you something like 'Failed check to move to Arkansas River (25%)' to explain why the move didn't happen.

If you mean that you can't order them to move there, try moving the mouse along the river province itself until the mouse cursor turns to "Go" and it is clearly pointing to the river. Sometimes if there are units in the way you have to hover over an unoccupied section of river to get the move cursor.

It may have been the initiative checks. I'll look.

You can turn the initiative rules off as one of the game options too.

I have captured little rock in both the "Southern Steel" and "Standard" scenarios, so it can be done.

If the problem is that you cant order them to the river province in the first place, I often find that I have left the "railroad move" indicator on, in which case, you can not give movvement orders to groups not in railroad hexes. I only mention this because I had, in the past, spent significant head-scratching time in front of the computer before I figured this out.

Otherwise, I know that in a particularly busy province, it is sometimes difficult to find an open area to click on to move the group.

Problem solved: I wasn't able to keep my mouse tip exactly on the river until now.

Thanks, Guys. I learned many other things while grappling with this.

It can be hard to click river provinces, especially the short ones.  The tooltip next to the mouse helps show exactly what you've got under the mouse.
