Steel Panthers like Campaign series

Post by spadman »

hello, I am currently downloading this game and I was just wondering on thoughts if this game is like Campaign series of games. I happened to be on the COI forum this morning and someone commented about this game so since it is free I thought I would give it a try.

I was also wondering if it is necessary to buy the mega campaigns to get a proper feeling about the game. I am not afraid to spend money on a game that will give me a lot of gaming time but am wondering if the Mega Campaigns are an update to the game that is important to play not only against the computer but multiplayer as well.

Thanks for any comments.

I can't really comment on the Mega Campaigns, as I don't have them, but I can tell you that I'm having a perfectly good time playing it without them. I probably will get them at some point, because they sound terrific, but there's enough to keep you busy for a good long while, trust me. Plus, you can find scads of usermade scenarios and campaigns all over the Net.

What I have understood about Mega Campaigns, is that there is large scale map, your unit is thrown somewhere on it and you play it out in smaller scale with what ever it is you have been given. So you can't pick your forces, you have to survive with what is given.

You can pick what ever is available in other campaigns though. But even there are some restrictions.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

By the way, welcome aboard spadman! As somebody who just started playing this game...oh, I guess about 5 weeks ago now?...I can tell you that if this sort of game is your cup of tea, you are going to begin losing large chunks of your life to it. You have been warned. [:)]

Oh, and when reading through the manual the first time, the whole artillery-airstrike menu SOUNDS about a billion times more daunting than it really is. Actually, it's a Hell of a lot easier to use than to read about. All in all, the Tutorial set does a good job of introducing concepts at a reasonable pace.
