Are you questioning my integrity?

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

TRY IT OUT THOUGH.

I know you're busy with your mod but if you want we can start a Scen 15...I'll just pick my password and return----and then you can bomb PH a few times (some of the outcomes are very similar so you might not recognize a difference right off). In my other PBEM I originally thought I could just rerun the replay for my Allied Opp after I mistakenly overwrote the WitP001 file with the one you sent me...and the results came out very different!

Hi all,

This is very strange and must be a bug...

When I tested this extensively in both UV and WitP the end result would always be the same regardless or turn reloading (or even full game reloading and loading turn or more even whole PC restart).

The combat report (i.e. genetarted text) would always be the same as well.

The only out of sync occurence (that still happen sometimes) is for the Allied player and thus we from the UV start introduced the sending of textual combat report with PBEM turn (i.e. Japanese player send both his PBEM turn and textual combat report since that is the "TRUTH").

Leo "Apollo11"

P.S. [Addition]

Accelerating animations also never changed the outcome for Japanese player in any of my extensive tests in both UV and WitP.

Could part of it be that he isnt using stock map / scenario? or maybe somehow switching between the 2?

I think you need to be able to trust the other guy, whichever side he plays. We saw recently here what happens when it turns out you shouldn't have trusted someone...[:(]

What happened? - I must have missed the thread

Spence, what version are you running?

As a Japanese player I ran across a similiar issue when re-running a turn for an overwritten set of reports. I found the factor that caused the variance, and reported it to Frag. I believe this issue was fixed. (And no, I'm not going to give more details, even though I think that specific issue was addressed, cause I'm not interested in sparking any ideas [:-]. )

Anyway, point is that if you are on an older rev, you might be seeing the same thing, and the more current patches may eliminate the problem.

I am running ver 1.805 or 1.804 (whatever is the latest) with a special CHS install of 2.08 or whatever the latest is of that. At work right now so can't actually check versions but they are up to date. I am playing one Allied CHS PBEM and one Japanese CHS PBEM. I was able to duplicate the different turn outcome for the next turn as well but the differences were confined to a plane here and and a plane there and a few extra or less troops lost in land combat. So I didn't post the results. One thing I've noticed though is that it is always the same ships that hit mines or get popped by the the CD guns and that the number of guys who sprain their ankle landing on the beach is always the same.

Strangely the replay bug has been hibernating or something in my Allied game while all this has been going on with my Japanese game.

I've cocked up the files a few times against Spence and Treespider, re-ran it as Jap and got the same results so most bizarre!

It was possible - at least in pre 1.804 - to induce changes in the re-run files by the person running the turn doing specific actions.

i have no idea whether or not you can still do it... and i am loathe to say how you could do it. i had reported the issue with extensive testing, but it wasn't addressed at that time... perhaps it was later.

It's not how or if you can do it, it's WHY... This is cheating, pure and simple...

This topic came up because a player tried to exactly duplicate his earlier results by re-running the turn, due to losing the combat results and replay from the earlier run. I don't think there was any cheating involved, other than his discovery that cheating could happen based on his different results.

Yup - thus bringing us back to the title of the thread...*

(EDIT - i am referring to the attempt to DELIBERATELY change the results, not the discovery of this problem).

Hi,

My personal experience is that you will get the exact same results if you replay a saved game, BUT if you change even one little thing (e.g. give a different set of orders to just one of your units) then you get a different roll.  It's really easy to do by accident - It's happened to me in my games against the AI - I like to save the logs, but sometimes I forget.  If I saved the game just  before I played the turn I can get them back, if I made even the slightest change and forgot to re-save the game then I can't replay my turn.

Best,

My experience WAS similar.  In this situation, the only thing that occurred between the first and second iterations of the original turn received from my Allied opp was that I mistakenly (forgetfully or stupidly) overwrote the witp001.pws file with the one my IJN opp in another game sent me after I had made my move using the first iteration.  I sent the turn that I had made using that first iteration to my Allied op and was planning to send along the Replay immediately after I reloaded the witp00x.pws file again and it had finished running.  It WAS my expectation that the Replay would be the same one that had occurred before but it was not.  I then reloaded again and again and don't think I ever got one that was identical to the original one I'd based my move on.  Not only that but I couldn't duplicate the results in two successive iterations.

In the end I explained my mistake to my opp, told him I could not duplicate the replay and described as best I could the significant things that had occurred during the first replay.  In actuality, none of the good stuff (like Kuching and Hong Kong fallling) that happened in the 2nd etc iterations of the witp00x.pws had happened in the first iteration.  Can't remember whether my opp mentioned whether he checked the Combat Summary or not but he made his move and we continued on.  Since then he's always gotten the first iteration of the witp001.pws file.  I experimented on the next turn and got differing results again though they weren't strikingly different.  The turn after that I got the same result for 2 consecutive runs.  Didn't experiment with the next couple of turns at all.  I have no idea what caused the original "bug" if that is what it is.  Apparently it belongs to Order Ephemeroptera though.

No that it would prevent rerunning of a turn but it sure would be nice if the combat replay was stored in the slot right below the game save slot. There have been several times when I have played a couple turns only to have the first opponent say he didn't get the email or lost it etc. All I can say is here is the turn without the replay.

All you have to do is create a folder on your desktop with the PBEM game name.
Then copy all the files to it after you complete the turn.

Then you always have the previous turn saved.
Simple solution for a complete set of backup files.[;)]
