Japanese mines

Post by el cid again »

The Type 88 mine is a German WWI mine only used by KRS type subs ONLY via the special mine tubes.

ALL other subs use Type 93 mines which may be laid via regular torpedo tubes.

No surface ship can lay a Type 88 mine - or did.

Most IJN submarines in all versions of WITP are set to use Type 88 mines in regular torpedo tubes. This is incorrect.

This is fixed by x.674 level RHS>

We have a report that slot 122 is the Japanese potential air laid mine (and 130 the Allied air laid mine). That means that 119 is a not really useful slot (an unused air laid mine). We have an open device slot de facto - all mods.

The mine in Slot 122 (Type 3) is too effective in stock, CHS, RHS - everything. It should have effect = 88 but actually has effect = 176. Mine effect = weight of warhead in pounds - this is a 40 kg warhead.

For some reason the mine in slot 119 (Type 4 - an improved Type 3) is right - 88 pounds. And Neither is date delayed in any mod. Type 3 should appear in 1943 and Type 4 in 1944.

All Japanese ships used Type 93 mines - which was correct - but one French sloop used Type 88 - fixed already.

I will put the Type 92 mine in slot 119. This is the controlled minefield mine. It is the only influence mine in Japan and could have been used without control cables as a pure influence mine. It is otherwise similar to a Type 93. It would simply be a Type 93 with more accuracy. To reflect limited production, we will limit number produced and ships that can plant it. If we learn what the game starts ports with (slot wise) we can swap slots and make the Type 92 be the planted mine to begin with [I bet it is the type 93 or slot 121 - so maybe we move slots to start with? I wonder if testing will report the mine type hit?]

Looks like Slot 121 is the default mine for Japanese ports at start. So we make that Type 92, with the same 220 effect, but accuracy = 10 vice 5. That is about right - and not quite as good as the best Allied influence mine accuracy (12).
Slot 119 becomes the Type 93, which we can move for all ships. Slot 122 remains the air laid mine, but redefined as Type 3/4/5 - effective only from 7/43 - and reduced to effect = 88.

Using this system, all at start Japanese ports have Type 92 mines.

We probably should leave all fast minelayers with Type 93 mines (also subs except the one class laying Type 88s).
This is because they do offensive minelaying which cannot be controlled. Slow minelayers could be set to Type 92 - which makes sense because mostly they do defensive (ie controlled) fields.

Good, thanks. So the 122 slot is for the axis aerial mine? so a plane with it will be able to do mining?

Not exactly. Any 4 engine bomber after a certain date can use it. In this case, two dates apply:

a) whatever the aireal minelaying date for the game is

b) 7/43 - which is when the device becomes operational

Not exactly. In regards with a 4e and aerial minelaying I have found two conditions that applied. Then of course the device date which is 7/43 in this case.

a) 1/43 the aerial minelaying date for the game

b) appropriate bombload. Not quite sure how much is necessary. In some quick tests, 4k did not work but 6k did.

Of course plane's Max load need to be bigger than Device weight...[8D]. Instance (only one, I think) where Max Load is actually used to determine amount of weapons carried is aerial minelaying.

Mike Wood:

Hello...

Any level bomber at a base size 6 or greater with sufficient supply can drop mines.

if(japanese bomber) mine type = 122
else
mine type = 130

Number of mines dropped = gAircraft[bomber type].maxLoad/gDevice[mine type].loadCost

Hope this Helps...

Michael Wood

And you need to have reached the aerial minelaying date...and device availability date too, I think (if set differently).

"Any level bomber at a base size 6 or greater with sufficient supply can drop mines." Level 6 airfield (smacks forehead with a book) you got to love the documentation. Thanks that certainly makes a bit more sense.

There are 4 engine bombers in CHS, RHS and Empires Ablaze.

CHS = G5N

RHS (non EOS) = Ki-91 and G8N1

RHS EOS = Me-264 and G8N1

Empires Ablaze = originally Me-264 later/future G5N1, 3 & 4

All have max load = 8000 or greater so all should work with mines. None so far has any date set for the
Japanese mine device - but the next release of RHS will have a mine date. That should mean that mines work from
1/43 in all now, and from 7/43 in future RHS releases.

So hardcode means it will be impossible for WITM to have 1/2 engine bombers deliver mines in 41 or 42?

PS: Btw British Fairey Swordfish(1 engine) mined italian ports too.

right you are maytee

don't you love hard code ?

in this case hard code combined with an anti-mine warfare mind set at Matrix - they say people who want to do what could be done want "mines in the pacific"
