This was the most powerful IJN surface force at sea as heavy enemy resistance was anticipated but still it was badly mauled. 3 daitais of Nells at Singapore were supposed to fly cover over the invasion forces at Kuching but evidently were grounded by the weather. At least the assault transports are still in business.
