I read some of the comments in the Battlefront forums and there are some who are not to happy with the game. Battlefront is a good company, I hope them well with this one. But its not for me(elicense). Wish'em luck![;)]
----
Well, I also... But I have praised them and when I put some criticism about the game and after this I got spanked lol [:D]
There are angry fanboys everywhere I go... [;)]
Game is good no doubt but it have some issues. My PC got lock up in second German mission. After PC restarts or I kill the game process my monitor have 60hz refresh instead of 100 hz...
Camera control - they just had to look at other games that used mouse for everything! Rotating, zooming etc... no need for keyboard! And no - they have their way... Heroes 5 or mentioned MTW 2 have better camera controls and many other games.

However I do agree with your comments on the game and the Totalwar series. Neither are for me. They try to sell off Totalwar as history, but it is far from. Just another RTS.[:(]

Well its Springfield Vs Shelbyville Time [:D]
Sure I downloaded the demo like most people did. It only took 25 minutes, my DSL is not the greatest either. Some of the mirror sites are congested. There are alot of things, both good/bad to point out, question or criticize about the game. I think the battlefront forum is a good place for that. Problem with this thread is that it starts out innocent and then the regulars here get provoked into making comments.
I recall a similar time when the shoe was on the other foot. And how the "other guys" started a slanderous slag fest on their own forum. No, the regulars here are pretty good when it comes down to avoiding that I must say. My slightly off topic 2 cents

I just want to remind everyone that while discussing other games and publishers is fine, we do request that anything that goes beyond constructive criticism be avoided. They have their own forums to directly give feedback if you really have a beef. In general, if any of you are having issues with TOW, you _should_ post there as it gives them the best chance of seeing and addressing any concerns. Similarly, if you have compliments, I'm sure they'd appreciate hearing them there too. Anyway, carry on...

RE: Theatre of War
what about this e-licence, could you describe it in a few words? why is it so controversial?
"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where –" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.

Far as I understand, it's a general phrase meaning that you must be connected to the 'Net to install, because the install process wants to hook up with the company's E-license server.
I think the major peeve with some people is that they're afraid that if the company goes bust, they'll never be able to play their games again.

I'm still on the fence with this one, somethings I like some I don't. People are starting to mod the demo, there is already one you can find on the BFC forums. Maybe the editor will be the saving grace for this one. After putting changes in for almost year I wonder how much more 1C the developer will be able to do with it. I would hate to have seen what shape the game was in last year when first submitted to BFC. The relative spotting system seems to give tanks the same spotting ability as infantry, which means if a tank sees infantry or AT guns they are just dead.
Infantry vs Infantry seems to be one shot, one kill, a little too much like SHOWII and other 1C RTS games.

Yeah, I'm a CM fanatic and so maybe my view is tainted, but I can't see this one having much sucess with CM:SF on the horizon, especially since it will also include RT play.

It's my understanding though that CM:SF will include both real time AND wego system. Why I don't know. CM has always been known for its wego system. I don't know why anyone would want to play it in real time it's hard enough keeping up with everything using the wego system.
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik!
and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?

I understand your problems with RTS...if it means anything to you, I'm the same (in some respects)...true RTS, as I see them, are difficult to keep up with and it's all I can do to keep up even when just putting a great big loop round everything and selecting "charge"....
But I don't understand why you have a problem with a wego system...you have all the time in the world to give your orders...you are in no way rushed with the wego system...simply that the game is out of your control for the duration of the order execution phase and your troops will live and die by your orders.
Personally, I think it's damned awesome system. CM series is an awesome system, albeit with it's faults I presume, but if CM had the graphics of Company of Heroes.......oooooh...I've just wet myself!!

I'm somewhat baffled too, but there seems no harm in having the option provided including it doesn't mess up the WEGO. Fredk as a 'CM fanatic' seems to welcome the move and I'm sure he must have at least some company or else they wouldn't have bothered. Unless they are just trying to broaden the interest group.

Who said I have a problem with the wego system? I never said that. I asked WHY they were ADDING RTS to their WEGO system in CM:SF....you do know that it's coming with BOTH play features don't you?
I totally enjoy the wego system. What I was saying or meant that you must have misinterpreted was even with the wego system and you're playing a 5000point infantry mission you can get lost in who is where and doing what without replaying even the mini movies over n over. But, I certainly would never knock the wego system. It's the next best thing to turn based for me.
Had HTTR or COTA been wego I woulda been all over it. Main thing is I like organized pauses within games that means turns or wego not pauseable continous time, that ain't wego or turn based it's real time with a pause button. lol In other words I'm a pretty lazy gamer, I don't want to have to press any buttons anymore than I have to in regards to "game mechanics" like pausing. When a turn based or wego system takes care of that all too well and easily since all turns are organized with time stoppages the way ALL computer wargames should be. imho.
Now what developers should do and I would probably take to is making a right click PAUSE the game. Then I don't have to lift my left hand to press any pause buttons or space bars. I can eat and drink with my left hand and do everything else with my right hand like when I play wego or turn based games. It is rare I will touch the keyboard when playing turn based or wego unless I just absolutely have to. I want to use that mouse for everything and the way I use a mouse they could put a 9 button hotkey feature on the face of it and I could hot key things right on my mouse.

Playing with the mods for the demo, I'm finding it I like it more and more. It seems to be one of thoese games where you don't like it first, but it grows on you.
RE: Theatre of War
Actually, I think I wasn't very clear. I don't care about RT, I'll be sticking to WEGO, i think but am willing to give RT a try (doubt I'll like it too much though).
I'm just saying that people who want real time play would probably be getting a better game with more content, so would probably be well advised to pick up CM:SF. I'm not really mystified that they included it either - i think it will probably boost their sales among the sort of people who might be into ToW.
Lot of probables there, I know, but CM:SF isn't out yet, so who knows.
