When reducing airbase size, please note that the USAAF was building out three Alaskan-theatre AFBs (Amchitka, Cold Bay and Shemya) for normal-range B-29 operations vs. Japan. Although they eventually cancelled the plan because of the Aleutians' lousy weather the B-29 base at Shemya (near Attu, and included as part of the Attu "base" in CHS) was completed and remains capable of servicing long-range aircraft to this day.

In my mod the B-29 has a Normal Radius of 24 and an Extended Radius of 32.

24 hexes will allow the B-29 to fly from Attu at "Normal" Range" and reach all of the bases on Hokkaido as well as Aaomori and Ominato. However to reach 24 hexes the B-29 will have to carry some portion of the 4 600 gallon fuel tanks it is loaded with thus reducing its bombload which happened IRL. 24 hexes also allows the B-29's to fly from Tinnian at "Normal Range" and reach most of main island Japan.

Part of the reason for this mod is to reduce the prevalence of size 4 and larger bases. In Standard CHS there are a number of bases that are rated as X(5) in the Aleutians. This means the Japanese player can, with appropriate engineers in place, create a level 4 base relatively easily allowing them to fly torpedo ops on a daily basis from the base. By making the base a Level X(3). It will take a little more effort to create the level 4 Base.

I have rated Attu as a 0(3) as well as some of the other bases in the Aleutians. This means the base can eventually be expanded to a 6(3) If I base my ratings on what the US was capable of then most bases in the game should be rated as 0(6) and would defeat one of the reasons for the mod.

Remember any Level Bomber can fly missions from a Lvl 2 or larger base, however they suffer penalties when doing so. IMO part of the "problem" with the game is the frequency with which the heavies are flying missions in the game. My hope is that by down sizing the bases people will be "forced" to spread out their aircraft and at the same time reduce the "effectiveness" of the heavies as they are represented in the game.

Japanese puppet units have been added-

Each has roughly 10 Japanese Squads, 135 Puppet Squads, 6 81mm Mortars and 70 Support.

The Puppet Squads have been assigned an Anti-Armor of 3 and an Anti-soft of 7, because of this they do not rate for Assault Value.

Regular chinese by comparison have an Anti Armor of 5 and An Anti-Soft of 11.

As previous contributors to CHS have included the Manchukuoan Army I opted to Represent portions of the Nanking Army:

PPA 2 Grp Army
PPA 3 Grp Army
PPA 4 Grp Army
PPA 5 Grp Army

No.....I did not want to spend a lot of time on something that I feel should not be a factor in the game.

However if you have detailed corrections I'll enter them in...

OK, I found it - it was actually started by Sardaukar :)
original: Me, a long time ago.
1. Class 1651 Kirov:
- it should be named Maksim Gorki, ships of Far East fleet were of modified design.
- have 6x100mm AA guns. In RL those guns were not effective against aircraft, so both FE vessels: Kaganovich and Kalinin were completed with 8x85mm AA guns. (you probably should represent it by Dutch 88mm guns.

2. Class 1651 Novik:
- Are you sure about their armament? Woykov had 4x100 1x76aa 2x45aa 2x37aa 3xMG 9tt450. Stalin had 4x100 2x45aa 2x37aa 3xMG 6tt450. In both cases 2 main guns seems to few.

3. Class 1657 L:
- only first batch had 6 torpedo tubes - none of them were under Far East Fleet. Later vessels all had 8 torpedo tubes (6 forward 2 rear).
- in weapon slot 2 they have different torpedo type than in slot 1 and in other submarines.
- this was a class of minelayers. They should have mine racks 2x10 mines in slot 2. Now that racks are on slot 9 which means they trade torpedoes with mines.

4. Ship 3840 Rezkiy:
- is ready at start. It was commissioned 420816

5. Ship 3840 Revnostny:
- is ready at start. It was commissioned 411214

6. Shis 3848/3849 Kalinin/Kaganovich:
- both were commissioned in December 1944 (farthest date)

Also there are some ships missing as I remember - some ships which were there in 1941 and 1942 and not in 1945. Do you have some (I believe max 10) slots for them?

And also CHS is using different patterns od transcriptions Soviet Navy ships names. For example Revnostny and Rezkiy could be trancribed as:
Revnostny, Revnostnyi, Revnostniy, Revnostnyy.
Rezky, Rezkyi, Rezkiy, Rezkyy.

Now they are mixed. Some ships using 1st pattern, other second, and other use 3rd and 4th pattern. Every of these is (I believe) correct, but I would like to see the using one - the same for every ship - pattern of naming. So choosing one, and I propose the way ships were named in old original Harpoon. So Rezky and Revnostny. Do you want such changes listed?

Also I would propose to split Shch gropup of classes into respected classes and batches (that would make more less 4 additional classes). Differences would be mostly in endurance. I believe that in CHS they have endurance about 6000 (it was some time ago when I looked CHS database). This would lower endurance for most of subs to 3800, 3900, 4500 - but few would have it increased to 9000. Again: are you interested with such changes listed?

Personally, I've never liked the idea of putting in the Soviet fleet as long as there aren't enough device slots to give them the correct weapons and devices for their ships...

Soviet submarine force is the only reason, why Japan really should not attack USSR.

BTW. Soviet devices with the exception of 180mm gun are represented by similiar allied devices.

I would be interested in your suggestions for names. Also the submarine class suggestions. I still have the previous list of Soviet navy fixes.

Thanks,
Andrew

I KNOW. My point was that I don't like the "represented by..." approach, even though its necessary due to lack of slots...

I agree. In general I do not believe the Soviet theater should be a factor until 1945. Although there are some here that contend that the Soviet option was an option for the Japanese, the Soviets never reduced the Far East garrison enough for the Japanese to ever really attempt it. The problem facing the Japanese was they felt they could have acheived local superiority on the eastern front but their scant reserves would be used supporting the Blagoveshchenck and Khabarovsk sectors and they would not be able to supply any advance in any event - based on estimates by fourth Army and Kwantung Army staffs.

Quite impressive info you can get from games these days. Sometimes better than in Polish books :)

Ok, L Class (Series XI) might have only 6tt. With such detailed data you showed I'm starting believe your data is better.

One of Kaganovich's might have been completed in 1942. Many sources gives different dates. I give the latest and safest one. So Kaganovich 441206 an Kalinin 421212 might be the correct ones.

In 1938 first vessels of Project 7 class were completed. Class was continued to build - latest ones were completed in 1944. Also you listed correct spellings of these ships with exception of Resitelny, which should be named Reshitelny.

Also I would propose to give names to submarines which had one.

So subs should be renamed:
"L-7" to "L-7 Voroshilovets"
"L-8" to "L-8 Derzhinets"
"Shch-113" to "Shch-113 Sterlad'"
"Shch-117" to "Shch-117 Makrel"
"Shch-118" to "Shch-118 Kefal"
"Shch-119" to "Shch-119 Beluga"
"Shch-121" to "Shch-121 Zubatka"
"Shch-122" to "Shch-122 Saida"
"Shch-123" to "Shch-123 Ugor'"
