OT- Name the Pilot #5

Post by Dixie »

It's the weekend, so it's usually quiet around here. So today's mini-quiz. Who is this pilot, and what was his achievement?
As usual, the pilot served somewhere in the area covered by WitP.

I'll also try to dig up a list of past 'winners' and previous correct answers later.

Correct. Flt Sgt Bob Cross was the top scoring Commonwealth pilot over Burma/SE Asia. He scored 9 confirmed kills, his first 3 all came on the 23rd January 1943, when he shot down 2 Oscars near Chittagong. His first kill is thought to be the Japanese 9-kill ace Maj Shigeru Nakazaki.

Hey - wait a sec - what happened to the first guy killed by the Japanese (Robert Short)??

And also, i got the #1 contest answer (Reynolds) correct on The Thread (beating out the time on the WITP General forum) - so should get at least partial credit, no??

I wasn't including Thread answers on that list. However, you can give yourself two bonus points [:D]
