HQ Link problem

Post by LLv34_Mika »

Hi all!

Thanks Paul (I'm new here and didn't find this fourm the first time)

But I haven't found an answer here. If yes... sorry but I searched about half an hour.

So here it is:
How can Units stay in contact with the HQ???
Sometimes I move some tanks close together and one still loses contact. And if this happens, how can I establish the contact again? Example: S3 has lost contact. I move S0 as close as possible to S3 but nothing happens. So what should I do then.

Well, I guess the answer is pretty simple. Many here will have noticed that I'm a newbie. (but open for a PBEM game Image)

Thanks
Mika

The section in the manual didn't help either? I'll try to jot something down for you later - but out of time right now...Likely one of these fine folks will beat me to it ;-)

Without radios, a unit needs to be at within 3 hexes of its parent (HQ) unit (Line of sight) to stay in contact. It can be farther away if the unit has a radio (exp chk required though)

If memory serves, even if within 3 hexes and having a line of sight to your HQ unit is still not a total gurantee as there is an exp chk for that as well, most likely to simulate how a crew is reacting 'in the heat of battle'. After all just because one can potentially see their HQ does'nt mean that they ar'nt paying attention or panicing when the fur starts flying.

hope this helps!

Thanks!

That helps a bit. Ok, let's imagine I move unit S0 5 hexes and S1 (without radio) was on the same hex before. Now the HQ is 5 Hexes away... can they follow them? Or must there be a turn between the moves to lose contact?

One question is still left: How can I reestablish contact?

Thanks again...

contact is established at the beginning of your turn. So if the unit began 'in contact' and you move it beyond the 3 hex range, it will remain 'in contact' for the rest of the turn, but on the start of the following turn it will be 'out of contact'

same for reestablishing. you can move your HQ within 3 hexes during a turn but the unit will stay 'out of contact' until the start of the next turn (assuming the exp check is sucessful of course)

Actually I believe contact for movement is determined at the moment of movement, so you always want to move the HQ LAST. If you don't then it "leaves units behind" if they don't have radios and don't have an objective.

Key things to remember - always set formation objectives! click on the unit HQ and use the red flag to set the formation objective.

Recon units DON'T use movement objectives! Click on them twice and a 360 degree movement field will show up.

Units in Defend stance don't move, and if "left behind" can becoe stuck...

Your "0" doesn't function fully if retreated or at all if routed - so make sure they rally first so they don't "waste" their rally attempt on others and stay suppressed themselves.

I will look, but I do not believe there is an experience check to get back in command, but there may be occasional "command failures" where units otherwise in command sometimes become "out", but htat is rare.

THe battlefield is a chaotic place and sometimes your troops don't operate "by the book" that is a problem with the game becasue sometimes when you want to do something and can't its easy to cry "BUG" when it sthe games "random factors" temporarily aligning against you :-)

Actually, they do move. Just set them to "computer controlled", and they'll start moving around - even when they do not have any waypoints, objectives or suppression.
