1. Request clearance for landing with radio
2. Make sure your HUD is in ILS mode
3. Get on the line and wait for your turn
4. When your turn comes, approach towards hangar through rectangles on HUD
5. Lower landing gear
6. Fly inside hangar above X marker
7. If X marker seems to be above you instead below you, roll your fighter around so X marker will be below
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

I just coast along towards the ship maximum speed, then when I get close-ish, I cut engines completely, and use aft translation to reduce speed to about 150 to 200, just using my momentum, adjusting using lateral translation (aka strafing), adjusting my forward speed using forward translation and aft translation. The only time I've ever crashed was when I accidentally hit the End key at 2x time dilation, slammed straight into the deck and blew up. Seriously though, crashing while landing on a carrier is pretty difficult if you take it easy and relax.
