Wow... not since 1929....

Post by Texashawk »

... has there been this hard a crash.

I have had my computer for 2 years, flawlessly running any and all programs (including all Matrix games) but the first time I try to run UFO:ET it gets to the loading screen and then it crashes. And when I say crash, I mean, CRASH.

Sound stutters... screen flashes... my hard drive makes a sound like a belch from Hell... and I'm staring at a Windows restart. All within 3 seconds.

And all it's doing, as far as I can tell, is LOADING GAMEPLAY FILES!!!!!!!!!!

Am I the only person to have such issues? I am running an Pentium D 2.8 mHz dual-core chip with 1 Gig RAM and an ATI X1600 512 MB RAM card, using Windows XP SP2. I have all the latest drivers for everything (already checked.)

Help??

OK... fixed my problem; apparently AA sends the game into fits but when I disable it it runs like a Ferarri. No other problems in almost 2 hours of play. Guess there was an issue with my ATI AA as far as this game is concerned...

BTW, early reviews are rather good! [:)]

My ATI card has problems with AA too, but only in windowed mode (in other games too).

Which version of the ATI drivers are you running, is it a recent one? Glad to hear that turning off AA solved the issue, we'll certainly add that to the FAQ but it would be good to know if this is a driver-specific issue or not (i.e. solved with more recent drivers).

Just a clarification, as I had this exact same problem (ATI Radeon 1300)... the issue is with the in game AA, not with the ATI AA.  SO if you have this problem, when you get to the screen where it asks if you want to start a new game click "Options" and turn the in game AA off.

Great game so far, otherwise.

Thanks for this, I've only had 2 sessions of long term playing, both of which ended in a dead computer after 30 mins. have now turned AA off and I'll have another bash when I get home from work.

For the old guys and computer illiterati......how about telling us what AA is????  There are folks out here that like to play computer games, but whom have only the slightest knowledge of computerese and its frequent abbreviations.

Thanks, in advance.

AA stands for Anti-Aliasing, which is a technique used to smooth out rough edges on graphics to make them look nicer. Eats up a lot of processing power, and has been known to cause crashes and other unpleasantness in many, many games...
