UFO:ET Failed To Start

upon launching i get error box:

This application has failed to start because d3dx9_26.dll was not found.

how do i circumvent this?

Try re-installing DirectX 9c?

can DX9 be installed once DX10 is?

Yep, I assume you're running Vista?    Installing DX9 will fix your problem, if you are using Vista you don't have to worry about it overwriting DX10.

Yes, DX 10 is the first standalone directX so you have to install dx9 after you install Vista. Fortunately dx9 is backwards compatible with every earlier directX so you don't have to install anything else if you want to play old games.

ok i think i have solved the proplem

download d3dx9_26.dll from

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/pop.php?d3dx9_26

and paste it into your UFO:ET directory

You should manually run the dxsetup.exe that is in the /DirectX sub-folder of your installation. That will make sure all of the necessary DirectX 9.0c components are installed if you skipped it the first time. This does work fine on Vista, though we had one system where a manual install (as noted above) was necessary to get DirectX 9.0c to properly install after the main installation.

you can install dx9 over dx10?

anyway i'm probably not the only one getting the error, you you may wish to sticky the solution(s)

btw i was forced to buy the game from paradox, but posted here as paradox's UFO:ET board is a barren wasteland

It doesn't install over it, it just adds the DirectX 9 files for those apps that need them. No problem here on our Vista test system.
