Video Card error

Post by bullgod345 »

Sorry if this is a n00b question...

When I click play I get an error saying:
UFO: Extraterrestrials requires graphic card that supports vertex and pixel shaders to run.

I've got a laptop with the intel 945GM Express chipset. It supports vertex and pixel shaders.
Here's my dxdiag file

Your integrated graphic chipset of your laptop is not matching the minimum system specs which ask for a 128 MB Video Card with DirectX 9.0c compatible drivers.

Please note that the Intel 945GM Express chipset is not fully DirectX 9c compatible.

Video memory size is not a problem, it could even run on 32MB card.
But shader support in integrated (non-ATI and non-NVidia) cards is questionable.
UFO: ET queries Direct3D for shader support and if it says no, you get that message
and game won't start. Maybe new drivers can help.

Unfortunately, we've run into this chipset before - the Intel 9XX series integrated chipsets all claim DirectX 9 compatibility, but they are only compatible with the initial spec, they don't have all the hardware required for full 9.0c compatibility. Do you have another system you can play it on?

A guy on the official site recommends 3D Analyze. Apparently this can circumvent the problem on some systems.

And another guy got the game working with the 915GM chipset this way...

I've tried 3DAnalyze...

Problem may be I'm running WindowsXP, I check "emulate HW TnL caps", "force pixel shader 1.1", "skip pixel shader 1.4", "skip pixel shader 2.0" and it gives me "error while injecting dll into process".

If I run 3DAnalyze in Win98/ME compatibility, the program crashes as soon as I click 'run'.

Does anyone know what version of Windows is needed to run 3DAnalyze?

What the hell does 'injecting dll' mean? From what I've read, and that's bits and pieces on a dozen different forums, it copies dll files, one being 'forcedll.dll' into your game directory, so I don't have a clue why that wouldn't work.

I have my 3DAnalyzer directory as a sub-directory of UFO:ET.

Solution is to use an older version of 3DAnalyzer.

I got the game working on 3DAnalyzer 2.26 with a 64 MB Intel Integrated 82852/82855 graphics, 1.50 Ghz, 512 MB of RAM. It runs fine, just a little slow after a while (due to badly optimized code).

Alright! I had to use the 3danalyzer 2.34 for it to work with the game (2.36 would run the autorun, but not the actual game) Game seems to work great with the 2.34, I'm in class right now, so I can't test it thoroughly, but it's working. Thanks for all your help!

I am using 3d-Analyze v2.26 on my Dell D610 with the 915GM chip set and things are working well.

As noted above, for the EXE I pointed it to UFO_ET.exe. I checked emulate HW TnL caps, force max pixel shader 1.1, skip pixel shader 1.4 and skip pixel shader 2.0.

Life is good! Thanks for the tip!

Im having the same problem.  I'm trying it on the 2.26 3d version because the newest one wouldnt run.  I checked emulate HW TnL caps, force max pixel shader 1.1, skip pixel shader 1.4, and skip pixel shader 2.0.  My Vendor and Device ID's are 0, but it says that it has an error with my serial number:0.  I have a valid UFO registration Key though, so i'm not sure what to do.  any help would be much appreciated.
