Sales so far?

Post by Jetau »

Just out of interest, how many people have bought the game from Matrix so far? Maybe this is classified information. [:)] I'm just interested because I'd like to know how big the overall UFO:ET community is (Matrix is only for North America, I know). I figure that those who have downloaded the game already are 'hardcore' fans.

Although I hate to say it, I'd guess no more than 1,000 have downloaded from Matrix so far (Doubt even that many).   This game as absolutely NO advertisment at all~   I try to do my part and *pimp* the game on forums I'm a regular at (GameSpot mostly)...   The vast majority of people have never heard of it, the few that have believed it was part of the crappy UFO:Aftermath/Light games.    Once I convinced people what it actually was, most people said the graphics are too *crappy* for them.   Overall... tactical TBS games are a dying genre and definitely do not appeal to the mainstream audience anymore.   The target audience for UFO:ET was obviously for the die-hard X-Com fans, problem is....most of them probably don't even know this game exists.    Sure, the GamePro review is definitely going to help...but most major publications won't even bother reviewing this one.   I believe the only reason GamePro did was because there's almost no other games coming right now and the editor was probably an X-Com fan.

Personally I don't even see why they  are even bothering to put UFO:ET on shelves.   The vast majority of people will  pick it up, look at the screenshots on the back and immediately put it down.   It's sad, but these days people care more about graphics than gameplay.   The $40 price tag is definitely not going to help increase sales numbers.

Even the original UFO was only really a cult hit.

This is a definitely a Niche game, dont expect it to be topping any sales charts.

"there are people who want to buy it but cant"

Such as me. Realistically I will not get the game until it can be downloaded in my region.

Well, I'm in the 'haven't bought it yet' category, simply because funds are REALLY tight at the moment.
