Data management. What people use?

Post by Dili »

An now something completely diferent!

I am compiling data for my internal editing: Weapons data, Units, updates sequences and that hard data converted to WITP data fields . Since i am far from happy with my spreadsheets(i use a small freeware program called GS-Calc6.0) i would like to know what people use to have all data accessible and easily shown and also other tips and tricks that can remember.

I use Witpload to extract the info...then massage it in Excel...First I use auto filter then I split and freeze the worksheet so that when I scroll I can still see the column headers and the slot and unit designations. Then if I want to pull up a particular device or TO&E or class I use the dropdown on the autofiltered colums...

If you want a more full featured freeware spreadsheet program, you might try Calc from the Open Office Suite available from http://www.openoffice.org/. (Watch out this package is big - though my ISP holds a mirror in their local download area).

As Treespider says, you just load it with WITPLoad available from Spookies site.

Best of luck.

Thanks all that info will be usefull but i am afraid i wasnt clear enough, my question is handling the researched data: OOBs, TOEs, weapons systems, changes with time, updates etc  and eventual use of something to integrate all that in a better way  than a spreadsheet. For example a database.
