I'd agree -- he is no where near Moscow, Leningrad looks pretty solid, you're (reportedly) kicking the Finns' butts. The only downside is that he is looking to take Stalingrad from the rear and has free rein inthe Caucusus. A decent trade-off, I would say, especially if you're able to stabilise the front at or around Stalingrad.
What are the chances of making solid progress against the Finns? And what would that look like in 1942? Is it better just to hold them in stalemate/defensive posture and use the spare troops elsewhere or try for a knock-out blow to free up major amounts of troops for 1943?
RE: Soviet turn 48
I am currently trying to get the tursk into play and capture the rest of the Caucasus. That shouold give me significant reserves, which in turn means I can start an offensive in 1942. Right now pretty much all my troops are tied up and I have no strategical reserves.
EDIT:
Atually with the fall of Rostov I now have 1 pzd and 3 infantry divisions...

RE: Soviet turn 51
I just started my turn and noticed that the Axis dude has almost made a breakthrough near Stalingrad. This is what it looks like nowadays.

RE: Soviet turn 51
The backslah for Stalingrad and Caucasus however is that his replacement is going to go down a lot. Not to the same level as for me, but I doubt it's gonna be even a 3 to 1 superiority after 10-20 turns....well in infantry squads at least, the tank and aircraft production will stay superior for a long time. Now what I consider even more important is the supply difference. I get 5 from Maykop and Larry loses 5, plus 2 from Stalingrad.

Things must be desperate if the Axis dude has his HQ units in the front line:

Of equal significance has to be the makeup of thse 2 front lines - yuo've got 2 unitis in most of them, he has 1, and many of your top units are significantly stronger than his - let alone with whatever is underneath them - looks like prime target material although there are presumably reserves you can't see - the HQ's at het very least!!
But if he's been so kind as to put that HQ in the line then surely you are being insulting in not accepting his odffer to attack it??!! ;0

RE: Soviet turn 51
I've been in the habit of putting two dudes in each front line hex because I've discovered that they like to retreat when attacked and I'm hoping that if one does retreat then the other one might not. Also, putting two units in each hex cuts down on the odds of him attacking somewhat, maybe.

It's all part of my strategy and tactics. Let's just say I rather have 3 fresh fortified infantry regiments in 3 separate hexes than 3 regiments in 1 hex. I can trade space for casualties and time. Having them all in one hexe just, thanks to mechanics of TOAW, exhausts ALL those units. If I have them in separate hexes then once Larry beats the first line there is a second FRESH and FORTIFIED line waiting, the only differenc being that Larry's units are exhausted and depleted. Which forces him to commit reserves, and then...I can counterattack.
Now, in theory that's how it goes....If I only had the troops.
But if he's been so kind as to put that HQ in the line then surely you are being insulting in not accepting his odffer to attack it??!! ;0
The officers need experience in the field as well

RE: Soviet turn 53
It's looking more and more like this is the beginning of the end. The Axis forces are going to wrap around the end of the Soviet line and destroy all the dudes there and then with the Turks joining in there's going to be enough force to take Moscow and everything.
It's almost all over except the shouting.

don't you get a big American airforce if the Turks arrive? And the Turks are fairly mediocre as forces go - you get another 2 armies mobilised too don't you?

Now everything else seem ok, I mean not too many losses, except for aircraft. That's one field where Larry is clearly winning. He won't need that US airforce for sure to gain air superiority, he already has it.

RE: Soviet turn 53
I think that one of those two armies that get mobilized when the Turks come in has already been mobilized when the invasion of Iran started.
Karri is going to wrap around the lines there in the south and systematically destroy the Soviet army ( again ) and then the Soviets won't have enough units to mount a front line anywhere.
