Newegg.com has TOAW III for $23.99

Post by Reggy »

I found TOAW III (download only) for $23.99 at Newegg.com, but do not understand why they are selling if for so much less when Matrix is selling it for $39.99! Why the difference? I assume Newegg.com either has a license to sell it or they are doing it illegally (then of course I would not want to buy it).

Any thoughts? Anyone bought from them before?

Good question...
I would wait for a Matix rep to say if they are doing it legally or not before buying (which appears you are goign to do, anyways).
To repeat history in a game is to be predictable.

Yup, want to buy it legal, but I won't feel bad for paying less if in fact Matrix has license them.  I would assume in such a case they would get their share.  Interesting observation though is that Newegg.com's price is the exact price Matrix was selling TOAW III when they had their 72 hour sale back in April that I found out about 74 hours after it started :-(

Looks legit to me. There is a whole page of the downloadable versions of Matrix's games available here at a substantial discount over the normal price. I'm a bit old-fashioned though, and will still buy my Matrix titles straight from the source, with a shipped physical copy and manual, plus downloadable, but as a means of getting the titles out into the mainstream, and some extra visibility, I certainly won't begrudge Matrix its necessary marketing tactics. After all...every title sold, is another potential pbem player!

I do say though, that the artwork that NewEgg uses on the page should be updated, and Matrix should take a hand in making sure that happens, whether it involves sending out new resized picture files, shaking the tree over there, and more.

Oh...and I'm moving this to the general TOAW III forum. It doesn't belong in support.

I agree with the old-fashioned bit and may just bit the bullet and buy at Matrix as well. I played COW many years ago and have thought about getting back into with TOAW III.

The artwork on the Newegg site is just plain wrong and bad which gave me the second thoughts.  If Matrix has a say, they should follow-up with them to corrrect as they are marketing their product rarther poorly.

Thanks for the advice...[8D]

ok, for those that care, I took the deep dive and bought from Matrix. Will be practicing against the AI for a bit then looking for some newbie PBEM later.
