THE GOOD WILL THREAD

Post by JudgeDredd »

I've been reading and posting here for quite some time and I have to say that of late I've noticed an increase in the number of threads that go down hill.

It's for several reasons, of which these are a few...
  • because someone reads a post and "translates" it into a personal thing. This may happen on an initial posts or as the topic has developed
  • because someone makes an underlying "dig" at another poster or a nation and it quickly gets a reposte
  • because people have forgotten about
    • live and let live
    • he's allowed opinion as much as I am
    • forgetting to put smilies "in the right places"
    • not thinking on how to word things
So here it is....THE GOOD WILL THREAD

Lets see how long it takes for it to go to the gutter. Let's see how long it takes before someone just can't help but take it personally, or before someone can't help but defend their opinion robustly over someone elses.

You can post about anything you like in this thread within the confines of the Matrix forum rules.

Forgot to mention (so no-one thinks I'm getting on my high horse) I am guilty of all the above!

I'll start with saying I am a bit of a "graphics" whore and love games were the graphics are nice and spangley. That doesn't mean I don't like turn based/pausible continous time games or realistic rts games, just I'm more likely to fire up a game for some late night play fun if it has nice graphics.

I agree. I think some of these game makers making these wargames need to spend some more time on graphics. I am not going to name any games but these 90's looking graphics keep me from buying more often then not. If I don't know the game and I look at ugly screenshots I move on. I might miss out on some hardcore wargaming but I just can't make myself spring the bucks.

One thing that got me to spend 70 bucks the day of release for WiTP (besides the fact PACWAR kept me playing 10 years longest ever) was the drastically improved graphics. They did a nice job and I am always impressed with the mod'ing that goes on even though I still use stock graphics and I am happy with them.

So, who died and left you in charge? I'm really personally offended by that, and it's MY opinion that matters, so you can believe me, because I'm always right, and I never lie.

Personally, I rarely pay much attention to graphics. I thought Gary Grigsby's "Guadalcanal Campaign", "Bomb Alley", and "North Atlantic '86" were as much fun to play as almost anything else I've ever seen. Reading a text message showing that your ordnance is finding its target is a good to me as seeing some pixellated explosion on screen.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

I guess I had what could be called a 'graphics whore phase'. But it got a point where I realized I owned way too many games that I never played, because while they looked great, they just weren't any fun.

JudgeDredd the only way you can avoid offending is by not posting anything.[;)][:D][&o]

No...a prediction.

Anyway...I opened this thread so that anyone could talk about anything and not get lambasted with abuse...and all anyone is trying to do is get me to bite [;)][;)]

So come on people...air your thoughts. As long as it's within the bounderies of Matrix rules, it's chusty to speak of it here.

Besides, I am the Judge...so you will be heard.

Well JudgeDredd, if you behave then the rest of us will have no fun.

So come on people...air your thoughts.
I am trying to select an epitaph for eventual use ...

I could go with something like Billy Pilgrim's "Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt,"

or maybe a quote from Mr. Carlson of WKRP, "As god is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly,"

then there are ideas to work from in the old Boot Hill formulation, "Here lies Lester Moore, died of four slugs from a .44. No less, no more."

A little play on translated Caesar might work, too, as in, "I came. I saw. I turned away in disgust."

I dunno. Nothing really seems to stand out yet...

A thread where I can post anything I want and nothing comes to mind.

Wait... how bout this.... Eye candy is okay as long as it helps the game. But I don't like pretty graphics just so I can have something to look at. I'd much prefer a game with very spartan graphics that was an excellent game than a game with extreme eye candy that was just a mediocre game. It's the board gamer in me I guess.

And for now I will refrain from being silly or vulgar. (Unless of course Pasternakski provokes me)

Since I'm too nice, honorable, understanding, accepting, already in my posts I apoligize for not being able to offer more niceness. And would any and all forgive me if I have said something in some way that may have offended you.
[;)]

However, I may be guilty of 1. (forgetting to put smiles "in the right places")
2. not thinking on how to word things

Good Will to all!

I did, almost become angry about those who (in another thread) seemed to have inferred that turn/based was inferior to PT games. But I held my peace following the principal "live and let live"[:D]

Finally I would like to say:
I admire all listed below who are number ones:
1.Judge Dredd
1.Prince of Eckmuhl
1.Ravinhood
1.Sarge
1.Robot
1.Scott Usn
1.a white rabbit
1.pasternakski
1.Artic Blast
1.rogueusmc
1.Capt. Harlock
1.Goblin
1.Dave briggs
1.Doggie
1.the 20,000+ members on the Matrix Forums

I apoligize to the other 20,000+ members who I was unable to name because of lack of time and space

I hope Judge that my small contribution in this thread has added to the good will among the members of this forum.

Good bye for now: may sweetness and goodness and happiness permeate these forums.
